M7 AGS v3 install instructions???

Hello,

I have a used AGS v3 and I am about to take the leap and install it. For those of you who did buy one new, did you get instructions with it? Also, are they the same instructions that are on M7's website here?

http://www.m7tuning.com/main.m7/store/10002

If not, does anyone have the latest instructions I could look at?

Appreciate any help.

Thank you,
John

John,

I did the install in a shop, but I was there all the time to observ. they used the instructions on M7 web site. It is straight forward but you need some experience though to cut through that wire harness of the TB. if you have the time, and the know how , you can do it your self in about 5 hours.

One thing I can tell you for sure, you MSCW will SCREEEEEEM and you will feel the difference Good luck on the install and keep us posted

OK, I am about 2/3 the way through the install and it is getting late so I need to finish tomorrow. It wasn't too bad really, especially thanks to the good Doctor. I have been taking some pics and will post them tomorrow along with my impressions.

So, far the AGS is installed, I have spliced the throttle body harness, and have the two vacuum hoses attached. Now I just need to place the throttle body back on, cut the radiator hose and reattach, and then get the rest of the tubing put together.

All in all, this may be the most in deptch mod I have done to a car, but it was awesome getting to "know" my MINI in more detail. I plan on doing more mods like this in the future now. In my own garage.

Thank you,
John

Just make sure those hoses are on good. The main problem with the AGS is vacuum leaks. Every one is different so you might not have any problems.

AGS Quesitons...

To all you guys who already have the m7 AGS: Worth it? I think it sounds amazing (pretty dang loud), but I want to hear a little input from the guys who have them. Pros/Cons? Let me know what you guys think.

Glad to help!

You'll be surprised how fast you start to view the AGS as an "average" install. I mean, you can pretty much get to all the bolts!

Slow and steady, and you'll be back together in no time...

To be honest I haven't tried anything else to compare the AGS to. I was reading through NAM and was about to get another CAI, but my heart went with the AGS v3. If you look around NAM you will see that most users like it. Yes it is loud, on the outside though not on the inside it's not so bad. I'm not sure about the exact gain cause I added the AGS with other mods all at the same time, but my butt dyno says all is good and kicking. from "observing" the instalation and comparing the stock parts to the AGS you can clearly see that the air flow will be better as the AGS tube is bigger and more straight forward than the stock. The air don't have to travel so much, just a short trip to the SC comparing to the stock, though I read somewhere that the AGS tube will be hot from the radiator but I don't think it's a big issue while you're driving. if you ask me would I go for it again... my answer would be a big YES . one of the coolest mods and plus to that it clears more space in the engin bay

Man, I cannot believe the amount of help from this forum.

Brad, thank you for the offer. I am about to go begin my work today to finish the install. If I do run into any issues, I will make sure to give him a call.

Also thank you to Randy from M7 for the offer to assist if needed, (or offering up Peter's time anyways ).

I will be back online in a few hours to let you all know how it went.

Thanks again,
John

OK, it's on!

But, I do have an issue. The AGS tube is not seating well with the supercharger and I am getting a rather large leak. I spoke to Peter at M7 and he suggested I use some high temp RTV to get it to seal and let it sit over night. A bit bummed about needing to do that on the AGS V3 as I thought the machined part would match up better than the previous versions and not need that. Oh well. I am going to tinker around with it a bit some more today and if all else fails I will be placing the RTV on overnight.

If it's really large...

then it may be that the tube isn't back far enough agains the tranny. See if that's it. But otherwise, even if you do have to wait overnight for RTV to dry, it's a one time deal.

Just picked up some high temp RTV. I played around with the tube a bit and still could not get it to stay completly sealed. I am going to go ahead and put the RTV on and let it dry overnight. The directions say 1 hour to dry and 24 ours to fully cure so I may just carpool with my wife tomorrow to be safe.

Can't wait to get this thing competed though. Even with the small leak (which went away when I pressed the throttle) it sounded like the famed screeming banshee.

Thanks again for everyones help,
John

I had a similar problem with my install and RTV sealed it up for me. The problem I think I had was due to the rubber gasket not being seated correctly.

Make sure...

you start with the gasket on the SC and put the tube over that. Otherwise it would be a pain to get everything to seat....

Thanks Matt, I placed the tube on with the rtv about 4 hours ago. I placed the full assembly on the way you described. I also think I lined up the tube better than in previous attempts.

Unfortunately, I have to work tomorrow so I will need to carpool with my wife. (dirving the X5 isn't really that bad though. )

So, the RTV will have ~24 hours to setup and when I get home I will be quickly putting everything back together. In other words, I already miss the MINI.

Can this setup be used with an alta intake too or is it the intake tube and CAI all rolled into one?

Its a complete Intake. M7-AGS, or Air Gain System. Not being made anymore though.

That's a big bummer. I love the sound and I'm all for products that make my car louder.

WOOHOOOOOO!!!

Ok, After letting the RTV sit for 24 hours, I got everything back together and no more leaks. My car is now a screaming demon.

One issue I have though is a Service Engine Soon light on. I made the mistake of starting the car without the Throttle wire harness installed which promptly bogged it down quite a bit. EML light and Service light both came on. I turned the car off and connected the harness. the next start was a bit rough, but cleared up shortly. After that, everything has been just fine, except I still have the Service Engine Soon light on. Time to go get an OBD II reader I guess. (Hopefully I can find something at the local Kragen auto store)

I am very happy with it. Mostly for the sound, but I can pretend it gave me a bazillion WHP.

Either way, here are a few pics I took during the install. And thank you again for everyones help. Hopefully I can repay the favor to someone like me next time.

Congragulations ! You have diagnosed your light problem correctly and the obd II reader should be able to clear it.I made the same mistake during one of my own installs. There is a chance it MIGHT clear itself after repeated re starts . You now have a MINI that sounds like no other , unless it has a AGS as well Enjoy !

My light came on for about a day and it eventually went off after my install. Give it some time.

Well, this morning I started the car and no more Service Light.

Everything seems to be working just fine, although for some reason it decided to rain in sunny California right when I get this thing on. Go figure.

I have been looking at the filter and I do not really like how it is situated in there. Also, I think I need to work on something to sheild the filter off more and get all the cold air I can to it. I have some ideas, but I need to find someone selling an M7 RAM intake to switch out for my DFIC one. Now I am off to the MarketPlace.
