if i have to rank all my mods so far, pls. see below. (1-10)

intake - 6
header -9
exhaust - 6
pulley & ecu - 10
coilovers (not just springs) - 9
light weight wheels & good tires - 10

hope it helps.

header is almost just as good as the pulley & ecu mod imo.

Hi SMG,

Nice post - helpful, there a lot coming out for mods and sometimes it's tough to know where to begin. I wonder if you could explain the "kicking in' sensation at 3500. I am not sure I understand the physics of what a performance header does, except perhaps reduce exhaust pressure?

Thanks,
Raven

the ecu & pulley didn't help the rpm needle fly up any faster but it makes more boost.... but the header & center pipe mod. makes the rpm needle flyup much faster than stock header....and it truely works well with the ecu & pulley mod....so now the rpm needle flyup faster and the extra boost increase make the car alot faster than stock from 3500rpm up.....

before i had the header & center pipe mod, i can feel the extra boost but i can also feel that the flow isn't great.....but this feeling disappeared

if i am to mod. my car all over again, this will be the sequence of mods.

engine performance.
1. airbox
2. header with race cat + cat back
3. pulley & ecu
4. lightweight flywheel & street racing clutch

handling.
1. light weight wheels & grippier tires
2. coilovers (not just springs)
3. lsd
4. big brake kit

my way of modifiying the S may not be the cheapest way to do it .. but i'm happy with what it is now....

SMC-
Thanks for the great post, pics and your impressions.
Let me try to understand your addition:
Supersprint exhaust header with no cat-you used the stock cat?
Race center pipe? Where did you get that? Custom made? Larger diameter 2.5" for better flow?

You mentioned in your list of priority mods for performance- adding a Header with race cat- you mean with a built in cat like London Stainless header/cat or Mini mania Header and cat. (What made you decide to get the supersprint over these- and I thought I saw the supersprint header with cat for $650).

I looking into adding an exhaust header to my MCS. I am adding the Quicksilver exhaust. I don't have the pulley or ECU yet. Might not get it and just stick to suspension upgrades, madness intake, and throttle body upgrade when it comes out. Considering the header with Cat or not. Seems that the cat that comes with London Stainless or Mini madness is firmly sealed to the header- that is less joints=less chance for leaks=easier to install and less problems. Would you call the cat that comes with the header a racing cat-or is it the same quality as the stock cat?

What about weights- is this header upgrade the same less or more weight than the stock unit?
Thanks again for your excellent post- I really enjoyed seeing the pictures.

"Supersprint exhaust header with no cat-you used the stock cat? "

YES

"Race center pipe? Where did you get that? Custom made? Larger diameter 2.5" for better flow?"

WHEN YOU ORDER THE SUPERSPRINT EXHAUST, YOU CAN ORDER WITHOUT THE RACE PIPE AND USE THE STOCK ONE TO CONNECT TO THE SUPERSPRINT Y JOINT BUT I CHOOSE TO USE THE RACE PIPE COZ THE DIAMETER IS LARGER (CLOSE TO 2.5&quot AND IT'S LIGHTER THAN THE STOCK ONE, AND BETTER FLOW OF COZ.

"You mentioned in your list of priority mods for performance- adding a Header with race cat- you mean with a built in cat like London Stainless header/cat or Mini mania Header and cat. (What made you decide to get the supersprint over these- and I thought I saw the supersprint header with cat for $650). "

SUPERSPRINT MADE A RACE CAT THAT SOLD SEPARATELY AND YOU NEED TO WELD THAT TO THE HEADER (BUT NOT AVAIL. YET) THATS WHY I HV TO USE THE STOCK CAT. AND YES THE LONDON & MANIA SYSTEM IS EASIER TO INSTALL BECOZ THE CAT IS ATTACHED TO THE HEADER BUT I'M NOT SURE IF THE FLOW OF THOSE CAT ARE HIGH FLOW OR SAME FLOW AS STOCK. 650 IS JUST FOR THE HEADER WITHOUT THE RACE CAT.

SUPERSPRINT WEIGHT IS LIGHTER THAN STOCK 100% SURE.

THE SUPERSPRINT SYSTEM IS A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE OTHERS BUT THE QUALITY IS FIRST CLASS.

I'LL POST SOME SOUND CLIPS NEXT WEEK.

I'd like to see Randy get one of these for testing but it's my understanding they won't send him one because his numbers on the BMP intake were much lower than theirs.

SMG,

your exhaust system looks great! how was the fitment of the system?

but on a different note,
are those HID fog lights that you have?
i can't seem to find any H7 helogen bulbs greater that 4000K in the states.
i tried ebay and got ripped off.

i might install H7 HIDs.

what do you think?

Just to address this question, I haven't been able to get flow rates on the Mania cat, but the LS header is definitely a quality high flow cat at 200 dpi. This is a great flow rate but still does not trip the Service Engine Soon light. I believe the race cat BMP was using still had issues with this, so that may be the hold up. It was a higher flow though - I think 100 dpi, so there may be a new design that takes care of that.

That's not true!
In my 26 years of business i've never refused to sell anyone parts! Keep in mind this is my only job, if I don't sell parts I don't eat!

If your talking about a FREE system, We have that also, one of those will be going to Mark Ferguson for his race car. You may check with him after he gets it installed.

hey bluethunder, can i get a free cat for evaluation purposes?????? i've got eveything but the cat

the header makes the car's response so much better than before....

bbt4 - the fitment is perfect as you can see from the pics.....the only problem is you hv to find someone who knows what they're doing.....especially when you weld the stock cat to the header adapter....other than that, it's quite straight forward....

my fog lights are not HID......they're just some whiter bulbs which i got from my shop...i'll ck with them and let you know what they are.
