Drivetrain Removing firewall for intake?
Removing firewall for intake?
I read somewhere here that removing or drilling holes in the firewall will let more cool air in for the intake (sounds good to me), but i'm curious if any one has experienced any negative effects in doing this. I'm just worried about rain and water getting into the intake. Oh, and i have a minimania cai. Thanks
Not the firewall. They are talking about the plastic piece that separates the area under the cowl (with the brake reservoir) from the intake. Drilling holes (or removing it) allows fresh air to enter through the cowl insead of the tiny stock opening. I'm not familiar with the MM CAi so I'm not sure if this piece has already been removed. Some like the Alta remove the piece altogether.

WOW!!!!!!!! The car sounds AMAZING. I couldn't stop goosing it. WOT is nuts, you can really hear the supercharger screaming "stay on the gas just a little bit longer, who cares about speed limits!". This is a must do mod, and it's free! wowy wow wow. Still don't know how water wont get to the filter but i'll take your words for it.
Even if water does get to the filter, it has to go through it...then be compressed and heated by the SC...then cooled by the intercooler...and then be sent in enough quantity to a cylinder for it to hydrolock. Unless you pour water directly into the intake tract, that's not going to happen. Water injection is actually used to fight detonation so it's a positive thing in low quantities.

You will find that anyone with an ALTA intake (a pretty significant number of people here on NAM, including myself), will state that they've had absolutely no problems with water entering the intake, whatsoever. You will hear how we've driven through the worst torrential downpours, through heavy, wet snow storms, and have experienced no issues.
No worries, mate!

You know that's great to hear - almost sounds as good as my car now. Even if taking in water was a problem i'd still have done this mod, I can hear the intake sucking in air like a... like a thing that sucks a lot.
