19%-GIAC-JCW injectors dyno

Hi motorers,

I just got back from the dyno. It was a great day with a bunch of MINI owners.

BahamaBart made a very nice air duck to push air directly to the intercooler!!

I am quite please with the numbers I pulled. 213Hp & 181 lb-ft (12% drivetrain calculation) - 4th gear runs...

My MINI has the following mods:

-Helix 19% pulley
-GIAC
-JCW injectors
-Alta CAI
-DetroitTuned BPV
-Forge intercooler
-05 tranny with LSD

On a stock MCS the ducting improved performance by 3 HP.

DarkMiniCooper It was nice meeting you and your bro' today, his S4 looks nice too (I'm a bit bias here). I think the numbers they gave us are whp, mind you I would love that they where bph as I pulled a 187.95 .I don't know if they ran my 2004 in 4rth gear too, I believe my best gear ratio is 3rd on the 2004:78.09 RPM/MPH. My last dyno run was at 10F less but I left the AC on and pulled 158whp,so adding pulleys and IC seam to do the job I will try to get back on the other dyno just to see if the machine makes any difference

The Dyno chart shows 187- 158. Where are you getting the 210 from.

Exactly! 187 * 12% drivetrain loss = 210hp at the flywheel.

Bart, the more I think about it, the more I am convinced you have a boost leak. If it was a compression problem, there is no way you owuld have pulled 169whp.

Tomorrow, I'll have to install that thermal tape you gave me... You keep me busy lol

If the drivetrain loss is 12% then you are actually making 212.5 HP at the flywheel. 187 / 0.88 = 212.5

Great numbers in any case.

I will add a header and exhaust in the near future. After that, I'll go back to the dyno!

Spend more time blowing air thru the DFIC and more junk came out. I am convinced that the junk is the SC coating.

On the numbers - while I don't want to bum people out BUT if a stock MCS produces 168 bhp that should be 148 whp (assuming 12% loss). On this dyno a stock MCS produced 163 whp SO a difference of 15hp. Shouldn't that delta be subtracted from all results?

Delta for every car is different, the engines have slightly different tolerances since they are mass produced. I have heard of stock MCS' putting down 168whp on a dyno and on the same dyno another stock MCS putting down about 150whp. Most all cars are under-rated HP wise from the factory also. One stock MINI to the next is not going to put down the same numbers as the next stock MINI. This is why a lot of people dont trust dyno numbers unless the same car that is modded has a baseline run on the same dyno with no mods.

putting numbers aside - darkminiS pulled strong! and the graph shows nice smooth lines. Anyone would be happy with the way his car pulled.

I am quite happy with the numbers I got. But more importantly, I am happy because both of my runs were identical and showed the same numbers (1hp and 1 lb-ft difference) The air-fuel ratio was also very good.

Now, I'll begin looking for a header.

From my experience well maintained MCS's dyno between 133-142 WHP depending on year. If a stock MCS (on the dyno in question) made 163 WHP then you have some issues with the calibration and the resulting output.

DMH.. we see the same results here in N. Fl. 145 SAE WHP is about the norm.. and then it is all UP from there as the mods grow. My 06 pulled 145.7 SAE and 139.5 Tq. a few other base lines we ran, on others, were in the mid to top 140's !! But I feel it isnt th driver.. it is the diag and calibration on the machine. ALso, speaking about numbers, it seems that the most people are getting, after the bolt ons and tune that is out there, is about mid 180 to mid 190's !! and those cars Rock and a total trip to drive!! Seems the Heads are the "Bolt on" to make over the 200 SAE WHP mark, either done first or as last mod!
But again.. if the guy says he made 168 on the dyno.. he did!! I am not going to throw all the what if's at him.. yes??

Just me........................................

Is the blue plastic tube the "air duck" you're talking about? Or is it something attached to his car all the time?

cheers,
