That's ok, Peter. Just make sure you give DFIC #xxxx a proper ceremony and burial after the autopsy.

I still have your stock core(in pieces) here to experiment with.

Yes you will, as long as you figure out what happened before you put the new one on.
The 'what happeened" part is key......

After putting 3 IC's on and off multiple times(?) could it just be boot material? This may have been discussed, but I didn't want to go back 4 pages (be gentle). PARTSMAN: Once I get the DL-32 in and working (hopefully today) we should hookup for some testing. It will be portable (connected to a UniChip harness)!

Peter, wants to put tha band saw to it. I'm sure a piece will end up at the shop in the "this could happen to you if your not careful section" . I just hope there is no little plaque w/ my name on it .

Peter thinks it was 1 time event - something got in either at the dealer or when I installed the DFIC. I checked my loaner IC and its clean/spotless.

Definetly an X-file.

Don't be so sure...

your degradation wasn't instant. Also, if it was an event that started with a lot of stuff, and tapered off, you'll have no clue as to the rate of degradation now.

Please, please, please take off the intake parts and have a look see. It's not much time. And if the problem persists I'll get to say "I told you so!" and you wouldn't want that.....

At a kilo buck a shot!

Matt

For sure it was a one time deal, but it took 6 months to completely contaminate the IC. Glad the loaner had no tell in it. I would pull a horn off anyway. As Dr O says just to be on the safe side, nobody likes an "I told you so" especialy a whyneeeee 1.

Didn't take 6 months - i've seen boost problems for a while, I just thought it was my boost guage and ignored it. UGH!

The good news is the M7 says that the 6th IC purchased is free.

Replacement arrived today .

I inspected my loaner stock IC - no crap inside.

I inspected the DFIC 3 times - okay it was 4 times .

Popped it on and went out for a romp. Boost is back ! I'm getting boost all the way to redline (7,200) reaching just 14.5 lbs.

Baby is back - ran great . Next step back to the Dyno to redeem my poor performance at MyMini Dyno Day.

Don't ya just love happy endings

Yay! Happy endings are the best! Hey! I've got a question!?

Where are you measuring boost from? I used the NPT adapter from my Autometer boost guage package to plug into the post intercooler port on my DFIC.

The reason I ask is because I only make around 15 psi at redline in 2nd. I'd test 3rd, but my current location doesnt allow me to safely do this This is with my 19%, which I thought should be making a bit more (see other thread) But perhaps it's just the pressure drop seen from the tap point at the post intercooler side of the DFIC?

One of these days I'll battle with this winter weather and go into my cold garage and swap it to see if that makes a difference! But if I'm going to do that, I might as well put on the new M7 intercooler boots, afix the new foam sealant, empty my OCC, reinstall my engine damper, install my Koni Coilovers, install my IE fixed camber plates, install my H-Sport Comp. front and rear sway bars, finish "rolling the inner fender lips", remove and replace the stupid melting clear turn slignal, change my oil.... GOOD GOSH! Does anyone else have a list like this with a garage full of parts needing time to do it!?! Getting married in a couple of weeks, maybe I'll have time after this whole wedding thing is done? :D

Sorry to get lost like that... Groomsbrain...

I'm tapped in via the "traditional place" - the vaccum line under under the right horn. I'm using a VDO guage w/ a scale of 1-15lbs of boost so I get good reads (I get incredible needle action ). W/ my set-up I should spool up to 14.5lbs of boost and thats what I am hitting again.

W/ a 19 you should be higher and chances are its the guage. I had tried two other brands previously and got less of a read (also wider scale). Using the same "wiring", I plugged in the VDO and got a perfect read so I kept it.
