Was it the header or the exhaust? Do you have a photo of the damaged part? Both can be bought in the aftermarket and the installs are something you could do yourself.

If possible, get the car up on a lift and try to pinpoint the leak. Could get lucky and just need a gasket. BTW, silencer = muffler, and that's at the back of the car. $1000 is probably for a replacement cat. Aftermarket options are available for less.

My friends brand new JCW MCS had his header loose 2 weeks ago, we dont know why and the sound was awfull, maybe you should check first.
If any parts are out, time for new but get aftermarket, it is cheaper and really worth it.

What year is your car?

The CAT assembly is a part of the header, so your only bet outside of the dealer may be getting a new header & cat assembly.

Check my thread:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...hlight=headers

for more options.

You could have a new flex pipe welded on I guess... I'd just take this as a reason to go aftermarket...

You could have an exhaust shop weld on a flex pipe for you.. don't know how much that fix would cost. If you have MINI do it they'll replace the entire header assembly and it'll cost you like $1,000.. Or you could go with an aftermarket header and it'll cost you a little less than that but you get the performance gains..

There might be an OE header complete over in the Market Place, there was the other day. It could be fixed or you could post WTB.
To fix the problem some shops have the flex material ( flex joint ) Monroe comes to mind & they could weld a new piece.
Good luck with how ever you fix the problem.

IF they couldnt weld it .. wut about this type of headers ? Is it good ??

Megan Racing MINI Cooper Header ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
While this is one of the most economical headers on the market it sure looks, performs and feels like headers that cost 3 to 4 times as much. Made by Megan Racing specifically for the MINI Cooper and Cooper S, this is a great way to squeeze even more power from your engine. Has two ports for O2 sensors but has a straight pipe in place of the Catalytic Converter. For use on off road applications only.

Is it make sense ? it cost only 199$ ??

Yes.
The Megan is the best bang for buck header IMHO. It would cost around $200 to fix what you have anyway. Even a used OE piece would cost more than the Megan.
Best of luck

OE is "original equipment" - that's something that came with the car or in the case of a replacement part would come from the dealer.

IMHO is "in my humble opinion", and is just a short way of saying that the writer believes what he's saying to be true but allows for the fact that others may have a different point of view.

I disagree. Many MANY MANY people with the Megan header had the test pipe/ resonator piece fail on them, leaving them with little more than an OBX header. I'd go with the OBX header, 4-2-1 design means a wider powerband, and a 2.5" collector means it will flow well at the top end too.

The OBX is a good choice too. If you need a cat & you want the flex joint the OBX is a little harder to deal with. The OBX does not have a flex joint, it has a spring loaded swivle. On the plus side, it's a simple bolt in. Like the Megan it will bolt right to the existing exhaust system.

Where do you live?

Are the Megan or the OBX easily available to you?

Do you need the car to pass emission standards?

The stock header is quite expensive compared to the Megan or the OBX. So it is a good idea to replace the original header with either the Megan or the OBX.

No you should not drive the car with this kind of problem..
You should fix it. If the flex is replaced ( as a unit ) it should last for a while. At the least it will buy some time to purchase a performance header of your choice.
Best of luck.
