nam lottery

how can we provide eachother with money for mods plus some fun? i don't much like the odds at winning powerball but a nammers' pool would be pretty good odds and fun too. we could see if some of the venders wanna throw in some stuff every month. say 20.00 a month to nam. winner to be anounced monthly. i'd do this . it'd help a nammer ;or even me !! what'dya think?

Do we all get to pick numbers? A buck a ticket? Is that what you had in mind?

$10 to $20 dollars a for a "e-ticket" would be a fun thing to try out. A different vendor could sponsor it every month and the winner would get a gift certificate to that store; it would also be a good way to advertise.

My 2nd favorite part about the annual MOTD are the raffles at the final dinner. In fact, that's the main reason why I pay to register for the event on NAM.

It would certainly be a way to identify who the more popular vendors were....

I believe this is quite illegal in California, maybe other states as well.
Football pools, baseball pools. It's considered gambling.

While a formal pool such as is being discussed (where NAM or some vendor were to host it) is indeed illegal in California and just about every other state in the U.S., that is not to say pools don't happen. (How many members had a bet riding on last weekend's football games????) It would be just about impossible to keep a group of like-minded members from establishing their own pool, administering it between themselves and using some sort of external winning determination (closing value of the DOW on the next Friday, anyone?).

how about a vendor posts in a descreet forum on nam as to "this months daily special" wink wink. we in turn know to send that vendor exactly...say 21.50 or something to that effect . this tells the vendor we are "in" . when the cost of the item including vendors' trouble is covered ; the vendor ships it to winner . done by anonimous drawing of some type.

I'd much rather see the site do a raffle, with proceeds going to a charity instead of a lottery. Maybe vendors can donate some goodies to go into a basket to raffle off, or if vendors are feeling expecially generous, we could have vendor-specific baskets.

I think this is a fact, I'd rather have our board open than shut down because of gambling.

You don't even need a discreet forum on NAM. All that is needed is a group of members (for that matter, they don't even need to be members of NAM; they could be members of a MINI club) that band together and form a pool. Each would subscribe to the pool and pick what the DOW will close at on a given date. If no one picks the right number, the pool gets carried over to the next week/month/quarter/period. If after n iterations of unsuccessfully picking the winning DOW close, the pool could be awarded to whomever gets closest. All that is needed is a set of rules that all participants agree to. And there is no exposure for NAM because it is not involved in any way with the establishment of the pool or its ongoing operation.

I would much rather see this happen - it's a better idea, particularly because conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor (Pool gambling) is actually a felony .

Let's keep things at least legal when we are off the streets.
