Question; In 2003 Mini had number of hydrolocke situation 's regarding blown engine's. when vehiles were exposed to major downpour's. In fact Road and Track vehile if I remember had it happen toward the end of the testing period. The resulting cost was in excess of 10,000 per engine. Would the Warranty be voided by BMW by doing such a minimal upgrade???. Has the Hydrolocke situation been resolved? The prob. if I remember correctly was obviously water introduced into the induction etc.
I could see how that would happen, but man... tha'd be a lot of water.
How would this silicon hose allow more water than stock? Besides the air cleaner element would get soaked and trap alot of water before mass quantities made it all the way into the motor.
So are the hoses gonna happen?
I'm not saying the hoses would up that chance.. but I'm just saying I could see how that could happen. Knowing the dealership.. they'd say something like the OEM hoses were designed to keep water from flowing in or something and then they'd get you... no Magnuson-Moss to help you there.
I was reading through the 2007 SCCA autocross rulebook for stock classes and it's not legal to change the hoses that lead into and out of the stock airbox even if the stock filter is untouched.
I have an alta Inktake hose on the way and want to upgrade that hose as well. I've noticed my stock hose has begun to buckle under the clasp and I want a solid connection. When available I would like it in Red to match my alta hose.
Yes actually, Samco was telling me that they needed to include an alloy fitting to go into the Air-Box which would increase the price by a good $20.00; I didn't understand why considering this tube would not be pressurized in any way shape or form and as long as there was a secure tolerance fitment going into the airbox that it wouldn't require this Alloy Fitting. With that being said, we are moving forward with the designs and trying to save on costs at the same time. All this for a little tube... strange.
Is this still in the works, dead in the water, what?
Back in December, yes it's been 5 months, I expressed interest in both the upper and lower hoses. I have since purchased the upper hose, but am still interested in the lower hose in red. That is, if this is still being looked into.
