Drivetrain SoCal group pulley install
Anyone in San Diego area
I am not going to wait for a pulley party in Phoenix that might not materialize.
I will be coming over from Tucson ,AZ for a pulley install on Sunday.
I need a place to stay at least for Saturday night and preferably Sunday night as well. It needs to be inexpensive not fancy. I would also be willing to share an accomodation with someone coming from outside the area
I lived there in the 70's but haven't been back in the last 20+ years.
I do hope there will be a chance to socialize with So Cal members and catch up on what has changed in one of my favorite cities.
Please send me a PM if you have info or suggestions.

I have transportation, lodging, a facility, and a lot of folks signed up - it's coming together!
I have a bunch of slots on Thursday still open, as well as two on Saturday.
I need to hear from:
itsthedirtybird
Ted L.
Patrick H.
Antranik
The rest are either on the list or I know about. Let me know if you want on the list! I have three slots still open after I get a hold of everyone. I may have more if I can't get in touch with the others.

Here's the latest and greatest time sheet. I do still have a couple openings - I can't believe that Florida had more draw than SoCal - you guys can't let them happen (shameless plug at the male ego)!

For those of you interested in the ECU, the biggest problem has been time zone logistics. Because of the drastic difference in Pacific and Euro time, I need those of you interested in the ECU there very early - 7:30 or so - or get downloaded the day before your install. The special price of $699 for the weekend still holds, and take a look at some of the testimonials from Dallas and Cincinatti if you are having a tough time deciding. This should not be viewed as a necessary upgrade however - it's just a bigger performance gain.
I do have one more hopeful that I haven't heard back from yet, and I still haven't heard from Ted L. or itsthedirtybird. Even if I hear from all of them - that still leaves three spots. Right now, without Ted and itsthedirtybird, we are up to 20 - and Florida had 24! If I knew that's all we were going to get, I would have just set aside three days. I know there were a ton of people interested in this that aren't on the list - so call before I leave for SoCal!!
The event is going to be held in a private race shop - with sports racers and formula cars all around, so the atmosphere is going to be great, especially now that dbwilldo is on the scene for the social side

I am leaving tomorrow! While there are spots open still, four to be exact, I don't mind them being open, as I now have scheduled a trip up to Santa Monica on Thursday to meet with the Powerchip Group to discuss and work on the pulley and non-pulley ECU upgrades and pricing.
If you do still want in, I have room on Sunday...
For those of you in the area, please come by and chat! I love meeting all of the MINI folks I talk with on the phone. I also plan on hanging out with some of you each night after the pulleys are done.
dbwilldo, any word on a party-like atmosphere?

Unforunately, suspension stuff would have required additional tools, and additional time. The parties are really limit4ed to just the intake, pulley and ECU. If you would like to come by, I'd be happy to show you on a car what to do.

Thursday Kevins,
How bout a little jubilation? It's Thursday evening and with no chatter here I'm going to have to believe your all STILL out driving your Minis! Was hoping to hear from someone on the first day's list...
Hey Randy, check your list again, you had me on there at 3:30 on consecutive days (Kevin Y), my impression was the software fix only took a few minutes upon return the next morning....still around 0730?

Hey everybody, I went out to San Diego today (wow what a drive from LA) and met up with Randy (a bit late, thank you excess traffic), met Randy (great person!!) and a few others. I have the Pilo intake and he installed the smaller alta pulley in less than an hour. It was really cool to watch and Randy performs the procedure with ease. On the way back, it was mostly high speeds and the first thing I noticed is, the throttle is a very powerful thing. Thanks Randy for the great work!
Good night all

Good night all
It's Friday evening, Randy and the boys are out to dinner and I'm home safe and sound from a what I'll describe as a Christmas day in July. Got to watch a few cars get the pulley installed, meet some nice folks, drive or ride in a few cars...well fly is closer to the description when you are talking about Randy driving my car! What a pleasent difference the pulley makes! Quick heads-up for those of you considering the ecu upgrade, Randy is planning to do some additional testing (on another product) very soon and will detail what is going on probably next week with all the ins and outs....So, to make a long story short, I held off on THIS chip flash for now. If your in this neck of the woods, come on out and meet some of us even if you are not having any work done, good atmosphere.
Kevin

Randy and Bud, thank you very much for a great pulley install event!!
Beth and I had tons of fun hanging out with you guys and everyone else. The pulley mod alone was awesome... I didn't really expect too much from the ecu upgrade, but HOLY CRAP was I suprised! Waiting in between the pulley install and the ecu install gave me great perspective on how much of a difference the ecu made. Thanks for hooking it up Randy. It was touch and go on the ECU today, but all the more exciting when they finally came through.

I see that there is some talk about the ECU there in SoCal. Curious to know what is in the works katnkevin. Anymore details, please share. Randy is coming north to visit us afterwards... Thanks!
TonyB,
Let's just say there were a few "logistical" concerns with Evotech this weekend and apparently it wasn't the first time Randy wasn't overjoyed with their service. Their "solution" for the ecu is top-notch as been previously attested to, but I think Randy is going to explore other options down the road and I'll leave it at that, it's really his ball-of-wax and I shouldn't say anything else. With all that said, I believe I'm STILL going to get my ecu flashed tomorrow afternoon, got the pulley on Friday and it' a very, very nice upgrade, as a matter of fact....two confirmed kills since Friday (early 80's camaro and Ford Focus ZX3)....If you want to give Randy a nice laugh, show up for your install with a helmet, his post-installation rides are...well...interesting.

I can second that!!!! Randy started my Pulley mod at 12:40 this afternoon and had it finished by 1:10, but at the last minute I wanted the one unspoken for Alta intake he had. After all was complete like Kevin said Randy will take you for a short test drive in your car. WoooHoooo!!! MAN!!! For those of you who don't know the potential of your Mini, after your 30 second ride with Randy you'll know for sure. If you are the nervous you'll love it. Not because he's reckless, but because he really does know how to drive our little Devil. You may think you're going to die, but trust me you'll survive. That was a learning experience for me. As an extra bonus I was in the car with Randy while he tested the Powerchip ECU against the EVOtec ECU. I'm not going to steal Randy's thunder on what happened, but let me tell you both ECU's are "FRICKIN GREAT" for this car.
Anyway my 212mile trip back to Antelope Valley (10min from Willow Springs Raceway) was like driving someone elses car. You will not believe the difference the pully makes. All in all I met what I hope to be some new friends (also GO Navy!)and the money was well spent in my opinion. Thanks to Randy for his VERY quick & pro service. Thanks to Bud for putting up with Randy and the whole group.

Just dropped by the install to-do to yak with the various MINI folk, (Brooksie wishes she had a blower to mod, but she's just fine as is!), and watch Randy and Bud pop together a coupla pulley mods. A pleasure to watch - clean, quick and very professional! Later met with the die-hards for BBQ at Phil's, and had a great time eating and chatting. Met lottsa MINI folk new and old, and most had driven quite a ways for the install. Randy is very knowledgeable and a very quick lad on the road - tho just as we merged on to 5 North, a CHP cruiser was sharking around! Hope Randy went easy on the loud petal - don't want him getting a ticket to spoil his SoCal jaunt! I used to plan on doin' things like installs m'self, but I would REALLY recommend Randy's services. The guy is the real goods, and loves MINIs.

Thanks again Randy

Hey Eric,
I'll be REALLy impressed if it's digital and you take a little footage of your post installation jaunt....if it's not digital, I'd leave it with Bud and have him shoot your face upon your return to the garage....(haha!) Good luck tomorrow, see you down the road.
