Drivetrain new alta top mount/direct flow intercooler
Questions to Alta(Jeff):
What is your opinion of using 2006 Mini Cooper S JCW GP software with your v2 intercooler? I have a 2005 MCS with a JCW kit. I understand the only engine change done to the GP was an enlarged intercooler and software upgrade. My guess is that the software advances the timing somewhat and there may be a remapping of the injectors. Do you think the Mini dealers would have a problem performing this upgrade? I just emailed JCWorks in England with this same question - no answer yet. It seems like this would "bump" up the horsepower of your intercooler by two or three (or more??). Hopefully another plus would be that the JCW/MINI/BMW warranty would still be in effect.

There are few changes to the sw...
it takes into account the 380 cc injectors, and has a different red-line. I honestly don't know if they go any deeper into the tune, but I'd be surprised if it were much different than the standard works software.
As far as getting it loaded, Minis position is no, they won't do it. But one of the dealerships I've spoken with has loaded JCW sw onto customer modded cars. It's a roll of the dice.....
But SW per se isn't really going to make an IC generate more or less power, really.... At least I've never seen a custom tune done for just an IC, much less one that has generated any increase in hp.

JCW GP Software
Dr O:
The MCS JCW GP advertises 214 horsepower which they get from a larger intercooler and software. My understanding is that this is the total of all the engine mods done by Mini on the GP. If the intercooler itself gives no more horsepower, it has to come from the software!! If the software does advance the timing and flows more fuel to the injectors(380's) then this is where the added 7 horsepower (above current JCW kit) is coming from. If there is another explanation - let us know. Thanks
