Cannot remove the JCW CAI

Hi all,

I'm sure it's because I'm kinda slow, but I cannot follow the instructions on Randy's website and apply it to removing the JCW box. There is a different layout of this box, compared with stock, and there is a plug above the battery terminal that I cannot figure out, and also a small plug that comes out near the front t25 torx screw.

Does anyone have any advice? I cannot even remove the top lid from the JCW box following the instructions. Thanks.

I left you a message today (actually Vicky did), and I'd be happy to help.

The JCW box is tricky. The flap on the back can give you a bit of a fit trying to remove it. Push the box top back toward the rear of the car, then gingerly pull up and front to get the box top out. The plugs are either clipped or push tabs - I've seen both used. There are two. There is also a vacuum line for the flap, but it just pulls loose. It is toward the front passenger side of the box. You will want to block that line. The plugs can just be zip tied out of the way, and the rear partition is still removed.

Feel free to call tomorrow and I can walk you through it. You may have to use a little bit of force to get the flap out.

Hope that helps!
Randy

Finally got it

Hey Randy,

Thanks for the call today. Sorry I didn't have a chance to call back.

I did a google search after I called yesterday and found Josh Wardell's website where he explained how to take the JCW box out.

So I did get everything installed last night and I really like it. The sound is even better than the JCW box. Seems like the car pulls harder at lower RPM's.

Oh and what do you mean by "block the line" for the vacuum tube connection? I just unpluged it and forgot to do anything else with it.

Another question for you: Does the ECU have to be reprogrammed now that there isn't the JCW box there anymore? The ECU had to be changed when I got the entire JCW kit, does it need to be changed back or altered now?

Thanks again.

No ECU change is necessary. On the vacuum, just find somthing that fits the line to block it, or get rid of the T all together and run the original line.

Thanks!

Larry,

I haven't had time to work on it to be honest. It will take a totally new part that can bolt up to the original SportBox - I have checked that much.

Maybe in the next couple of months...

Please keep me in the loop. I'll stay with the stock unit for now.
Thanks Randy

Filter Rubbing?

Anyone with the SportBox installed tell me if the back tip of your filter lays on the throttle linkage? I had the SportBox installed for about 4 days and had to take it back out since I'm putting in a new BPV.

When I look at the back tip of the red filter "sock" it was indented and when I looked at the throttle cables, there is a fine layer of oil on them, so I suspect this sock was rubbing. Probably not a big deal, but I can't slide the filter down on the pipe anymore than about 1cm to try to get it out of the way.

Thanks.
