Just curious as to whether or not I should upgrade my fuel injectors or not.

Oh, and I'll be getting GIAC software to go with it. I always hear you need new ones with the 19%, but not sure about 17%.

thanks

GIAC wants you to upgrade the injectors for the 17 and 19 pulley program files. Call Eric at Helix - he helped develop the GIAC programs.

I have a 17% pulley with CAI and software. My air/fuel is dead on and the car pulls hard. I have heard these cars run rich from factory.
You will be fine.

I wouldnt do the injectors, but just put the next range colder plugs in.

Most minis run pig rich...

A little clarification is due. It is true that MINIs run rich, even with the 17 and 19% pulleys. They do benefit from a slight leaning of the mixture to about 4500rpm, but above that they produce better power with a very rich mixture, due to the cooler cylinder temps. Whereas running such a rich mixture produces less power in most cars, in MINIs, less power is lost to high cylinder temps with the richer mixture. You don't need big injectors if you run the 17 or 19 with no software, but if you want to benefit from software, the 380cc injectors produces the best gains (if the software is properly tuned for those injectors).

BTW, we do sell colder plugs, but have never seen any benefit from them either on the dyno, or monitoring knock sensor activity.

but surely the knocking is due to both the quality of the fuel, and the IAT (for whatever reason, IC heatsoak, hot/humid day, the IAT could be very hot).

Here in aus, our fuel is pretty good, so we don't really experience knocking. I know i haven't

I went with the Denso IK22's and MTH Tuner file and I'm still running way rich. I haven't done a A/F measurement yet but those chrome tips definitely get blackened even after one day of running after being cleaned. That will all change soon though with the next mod. A/F will definitely have to be tuned in.
