flywheel vs crank pully

If I'm going to install a lighten flywheel, do I need to take out the crank pully?

DO they work toegther or they just won't mix?

I'm worry about damaging the crank....

thanks in advance!

No you should keep the stock crank pulley if you go with a lightened flywheel. Not sure if you would do long term damage, but the biggest downside you might run into is the engine lagging when pulling out. I noticed this with the lighter flywheel and it has been amplified with the stage 3 clutch as it is either in or out. So what happens is when you push the clutch in the engine slows down and doesnt have as much recipricating mass to keep the engine at a constant rev, so it dips down. It almost feels like its going to stall when I pull out, so I blip the throttle a bit to make sure. It has actually stalled on me once, but I didnt blip and I was on a slight incline.

While I agree with TX in theory, it all comes down to application and how much PITA you're willing to put up with on the street. For autocrossing it's very cool. For drag racing and daily driving it stinks.

As far as damaging the engine, there are theoretical issues with the crank pulley that have been hotly debated here. As far as I know, the fw has no real impact on this.

we don't have a lot of torque with these engines as it is so if you've already noticed they are touchy when launching . to reduce the inertia the stock flywheel is providing will only make this worse. then to add potential vibration plus even less inertia with a presumed lighter crank pulley is really asking for headaches. my 2 cents.

10lb Fidanza FW + Spec S2 clutch + 2% M7 crank pulley/15% SC pulley = excellent results for the past year

In my personal experience, a lighter flywheel makes taking off easier. Not harder. The engine revs much more freely, so you may have to rev match and blip the throttle a little more, but it just means you have to know how to drive a little better.

i guess if you don't mind some loss in drivability due to the need to blip the throttle every time you take off from a start ;this could be just the thing for you . i personally enjoy the fact that i can pull away from a stop without thinking about it . the car can just do it .

I prefer to drive my car, so my ALTA 0% and UUC flywheel are excellent for me. I'd guess most wouldn't like it though, as there is NVH increase and like herbie hind said, you have to pay attention to your foot!

14.5 lb flywheel, 2% light crank pulley and 12,000 miles with no issues. Wife drives the car and never noticed a thing. I got lucky with this one, now the exhaust modification was another matter all together
