Madness JCW intake direct fit high flow filter replacement

I just saw the vendor annoncement stating "The JCW replacement paper filter costs $170 to replace". I don't know what a dealer would charge but an OEM replacement filter can be purchased for $90 elsewhere.

I wonder how the $99 Madness reusable "high flow velocity stack filter" compares to the $80 ITG reusable 3-stage foam filter.

The GT Tuning replacement filter costs $103, a price inflated by the cost of importing it from the UK. Fitting this filter involves drilling holes in air box for the anchoring system pegs.

The Madness (probably S&B) filter has a built in velocity stack which the GT Tuning filter does not.

Given the Madness valuation for the OEM replacement filter and the cost of the ITG replacement filter I'm wondering if their $99 pricing is inflated too.

I am thinking that the Madness is the better design.

Looking at the photo, does the Madness design allow unfiltered air to enter through the uncovered hole in the end of the filter, or am I missing something in the description?

The end I think you are describing recesses into the filter more and is capped off inside. Similar to the cone filters K&N and a bunch of other sell.

It looks like you can use a universal K&N filter. $20.99 from autozone...

The Madness filter in indeed an S&B filter. A very good filter with 8 layers of cotton. I believe that the price is inflated. I would say that they had S&B make the filter special for the JCW intake. Meaning that S&B doesn't have one of their stock filters that will fit. The actual cost Madness had to pay depends on how many units they ordered. The stock sizes of S&B filters are usually in the $30-$40 range.

I personally wouldn't use a K&N if I could help it. Just not enough filter media for me.

I don't really like the GTT/J&R filter either because of the gauze filter on the end. It's not oiled and only 2 layers I think. The air is going to take the path of least resistance right along with the dirt.

I have an Airaid cone filter inside my stock airbox. It's oiled 4 layers of gauze and 1 layer of a synthetic material. They may have one that would fit the JCW box but someone would have to measure. My filter cost only $30.
