protection?

what's the tensioner stop or whatever i've read about here? i've got a feelin' it'd be nice not to lose too many other parts if i were to break a belt .so who sells a deflector or whatever to keep the flyin' shreddin ' piece of chooch belt from tearing up my hot rod?

basically if you're SC belt snaps, the belt tensioner (which is always pushing the tensioner pulley against the belt to keep it tight doesn't have anything stopping it, so when it fully extends it smashes into the crank pulley if i'm not mistaken (or some other pulley). You don't want that. The tensioner limit stop sits across the belt tensioner to limit the travel in the case that you snap a belt

i think you remove the wheel closest to the pulley (passenger side front wheel in the US), then remove the wheel well and slap it on....

The tensioner appears to be blocked by the frame...might need motor jack...

oh ok. Have you tried sliding it in from under the hood/bonnet, and working the tool in from both under the hood and from the wheel well (at the same time) ?

I'm having my belt changed today by Chad and we'll take another look...

Has anyone done this install before?

Yes, let us know what you find. I have the part sitting in my tool chest and I assumed that I would have to remove the tensioner from the engine (in a procedure similar to a pulley install) to get the limiter installed.

BTW- are you putting in a Gatorback belt? I'd love to hear what you think about it.

i've done my own pulley using webbs how-to. did it without a tool for the tensioner. i think it should be accessable from the top . just use your tentioner tool ;then put the pin (leather awl works good)in the hole in the spring steel slide of the tensioner. this will allow two hands to apply the tensioner stop. i haven't seen one but i figure it must go on that spring steel sliding deal somehow .?

I've installed the stop bar on my mini. As I recall the tensioner does not have to be removed, just remove one bolt from each end of the little shock (damper) one end at a time. The bar doesn't replace the damper but mounts beside it using the same mounting holes. It is tight in there, have to use open end wrench. Took mine back out because it didn't come with the right shoulder bolt or bushing. It would lock down on the bar and not allow the travel needed to keep the belt tight.
Now I found out My Mini will supply the parts free, I need to contact them and get the replacement bushing.

If you try to remove the whole tensioner assy, the engine will have to be lifted for clearance.
