Slipping 15%pulley

Has anyone ever had their Alta 15% slip on the supercharger shaft. Mine has, I retighten it but after acouple runs it loosens up again. It first happened while my wife had the car 150 miles away from the house she drove it home so i think the hub probably wore some . I'm hopeing the shaft was not damaged. I ordered a new pulley and will be putting it on soon. anyone have this experience at all. Anyone have a supercharger fail, what were the symtoms?

I know this is a stupid question... but are you applying loctite to the 4 allen bolts that screw the pully onto the pully hub?

Red loctite btw, forgot the actual number but the stuff that is appropriate for the size of the bolt.

Not a stupid question at all..

if the Loctite was on (I think red is 271, but I'd have to check to make sure) and this happened, then the bolts weren't torqued properly.

So, just take each bolt out one by one, and torque to spec with a drop of red on the end of the threads. All will be better.

I still have the little install slip of paper that my pully came with at home... if doc doesn't post it up before 5 ill get it on here.

If i remember correctly they are something like 85lbs. please don't go using that to just torque it up though... i have a very bad memory due to college. :P

Yes I did the loctite and torque and did it again on the retighten. Thanks though, I putting the new 17% on as I type (kinda). Just thought I'd look on Nam real quick to see if anyone had the same problem or something similar. Just took the old 15 off about to put the 17 on. should be done in a bit. Not much diff at all holding those two up to each other.I'd say bout 2%

I had a similar issue with another manufacturer the pulley was not milled correctley and the taper would bottom out before it would get completeley tight.

When you get the new pulley mic the taper base (the part the bolts screw into)for thickness and see if they are the same.

Got the 17% on no problems so far, took it out for a nice hard run MYFAST is a lil faster now. The new pulley comes with lock washers and the instructions don't recommend the red loctite anymore. I still put it on though. Fairly quick fix, almost glad it happened now that i'm on the other side of it.

how could you tell it was slipping? i would think any slipping would cause the belt to burn. or5 is it just the bolts that are slipping out?

Yea, I'm curious too as to how you were telling it was slipping. I just put my M7 pulley on and didn't use loc-tite....so I'm guessing I should probably go put some loc-tite on them and screw them back in!

the way i could tell is the sound. I wasn't sure at first what was making the noise ,sounded like the starter was engaging while running ( for just a sec at a time). It happened only on acceleration ,thought it was a short causing the starter to engage. Glad that was not it, our starters are buried under the exhaust manifold. after some more reasoning (test driving) I felt a cutout when the screech of metal on metal sound would happen. AH! loss of power, another clue, went home checked the screws on the pulley, they were loose. I was gonna get some metal shim material and wrap the charger shaft, but that wouldnt make the car faster I wonder if Alta has not heard from folks about this to some measure, after all they did change their design somewhat. Overal I must say I have been quite satisfied with all of the Alta products I have used.
