The metal caliper bushings, ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid, and stainless steel lines from Turner Motorsports. I just checked and you can get Hawk pads from there too. I have heard a lot of good things about those, and I think I would try them the next time I buy (instead of Greenstuff) even though I have no complaints.

The Greenstuff pads, I recommend you google, as they are available many places and you can probably find the price du jour that way.

When I did it, I thought the best way to go was slotted (NOT cross-drilled, as I had heard that there was some tendency toward warpage of same!! ) rotors also. At that time, I also thought that the drilled appearance looked kinda cool also (they still do, BUT...) slotted is the best performance way. Sok, I got the EBC slotted with "dimples" that make it appear that the rotor is also cross-drilled. If I had it to do over again, I think I would wait and give stock rotors a chance to perform with the other upgrades before getting the slotted rotors, and get Power Slots instead of the EBC's. Hope that makes sense.

Motor on.

Ya once you start it is hard to stop.

I've made my decision to get the Alta 15% pulley , CAI and a 22mm rear sway bar all to be purchased and installed at Webb Motorsports. My question is......I am now planning on having these mods done right after purchasing the car. Is that wise?

Well, since you can get a JCW package straight from the factory, there shouldn't be any adverse consequences from the mods you are considering. Just be sure to follow the break-in period limits.

Don't think you'l;l do any harm but it might be worth it to drive the car in stock form for the break in period so that you can feel the effect the mods have on the car.

I'm going to follow the break in procedure like it was law. I even plan on an extra oil change right after the break in.

That is the best advice I could give! Just be sure to change the filter at the same time you do the oil.

My wife agrees with you. She wants to know if the car is a lemon before we start the mods.

You might also do your mods sequentially (as opposed to all at once). That way, you can get an appreciation of the relative contribution each mod makes to the overall fun factor. I am following that approach (sequential modding) and it is giving me a new insight into how my MINI is being "woken up".... The SSRs and non-runflat tires were a great start (my neck thanks me each time I take the car for a drive). The FSDs were the icing on the cake ride-wise. The 17% Alta really was an eye-opener. I am wondering if the SSRs have acted to magnify the benefit of the Alta, since I was able to loose so much rotational mass (~80 lbs). And the sound of the Gatorback belt (installed with the Alta) is a kick....

Your trying to get me hooked on the mod addiction aren't you? There should be a law against mod pushers.

Well, not really.... You made the decision to mod all on your own without any help from me. I am just suggesting ways that you can get maximum enjoyment out of the experience....

How did you do this? The average weight reduction going from 17" Slites and runflats to lightweight 17" rims and non-RFs is about 45lbs total. Are you running superlight 15"s? I'm sure there's interest in the products and weights that can get an 80lb wheel weight saving!
cheers,

SSR 16x7 weigh in at 11 lbs each (per Tirerack.com). The S-lites that were replaced weighed in at ~32 lbs. 20 lbs per corner x 4 gets me to 80 lbs of rotational mass reduction.

caminifan: Yes--you had to replace those SLites if they weighed that much! Most 17" ers that I've weighed were around 26lbs each, so yours were considerably heavier than normal. Well worth changing out.
Now if you get a BBK, you can nearly get another 20lbs off the unsprung weight, and better fade resistance to boot!

cheers,

Yeah, I really noticed the difference in weight when I was removing the original wheels/tires and replacing them with the SSRs....

I noticed you have the TCE BBK on your MINI. Did Todd even up the brake stopping balance front and rear to match the factory setting (too much grip in the front can actually lengthen the stopping distance as the ABS steps in and modulates things)? I have been considering a TCE BBK, but have held off for the moment because of the balance issue. Also, I don't know if the TCE BBK kit will work with my 16 inch SSRs. Lastly, is there really a 20 lb difference between the TCE BBK and the stock calipers and rotors? I thought it was 10 lbs.

I can top this - I needed to replace my scoop because the original blew of the car (see what happens when you fiddle with it ). My wife said order a new scoop the car look ridiculous!!

SO

I went to M7 and ordered a scoop with DFIC (the rest of you ordered DFIC w/ Scoop) - so my wife thinks the replacement scoop cost 800 bucks. AND

that is how you get a DFIC was free .

Uh, I think I called the thread Minor Mods. That is way more calculus than I expected.

Mod on

Wait. So, HOW did you get the original to "blow off"?

Unless I win the lotto, there is no other way I'll get my DFIC and M62. Uh, the supercharger IS integral with the scoop and intercooler, isn't it?
