Cold air and short air/ram are totally different as mancheese said. Short ram draws air from above the engine, where it is on all s intakes now (you know what I mean). Where as cold air intakes place the filter somewhere around the wheels under the engine. Which means colder air, hence the name. It's drawback is that it could also suck up water which means by by motor. But aem makes a bypass valve for that that has been proven to work (and doesn't decrease hp until it sucks up water). Anyways, there doesnt seem to be enough room in the cooper's engine bay to place a worthwile intake pipe (i.e. straight enough to gain more power than a short ram). I dont have my s yet but this conclusion seems obvious because they would have already made a cold air for it since they cost more.
My 2 cents.
My 2 cents.
