BOSCH O2 Oxygen Sensor For The Mini

Howdy,
Since I have a “Bank One Lean” Check Engine Light code; I went shopping for a new O2 (Oxygen) Sensor, just in case that is the problem. It always trips the code at exactly 3,005 rpm at 39MPH and all other indications are the same, engine load, temp, etc. according the my DriveRight CarChip anyway.
Okay, I will get to the point; why pay outrageous dealer cost for an O2 sensor when you can get a BOSCH part # 13878 made for the mini? I might try to use a universal O2 sensor and use the old harness but the BOSCH price is not too bad. The best price I found is on https://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/prt,23,13878at $137.89. Since I live in Europe, I will check the local auto parts store and see if I can find it cheaper. Does anyone else know where we can get it cheaper, please post.

Ciao for now,
Frodo

The last time I bought a generic O2 sensor was several years ago. I paid
less than $50 for it and it took me about 5 minutes to splice it in. Buying
one with the correct harness and paying 2-3 times the cost of a generic
makes no sense at all.

Ya I had the same experience with my Buell X1. Buell sensor was $$$ I found a Bosch Ford O2 on ebay for $11 and it pluged right in Once I take a look at the stock sensor on the MCS and see how many wires it has, I may splice it myself. I agree spending more money for a few more feet of wires seems like a waste of money but I wanted to give everyone another option of a complete sensor and harness. I will let ya know what I find.

Ciao,

all you need is a 4 wire o2 sensor. there are two white wires (both 12v) the one on the right is for the o2, the one nearer to the left is for the heater coil, a black wire (the signal for the o2) and a grey wire for grounding. You need all 4 wires because the o2 is a heated plug and will throw a code if it doesnt pick up the resistance from the heater coil. Good luck !

Outstanding Soul, thanks for the info. Just saw a Bosch universal 4 wire on ebay. It even comes with the connector to splice into the factory harness.
