Auto?

I have a MCS auto and I know that sucks but my old lady can't drive stick. What is the max hp that you can have with the auto? Is there any ecu upgrades that will change the shifting at 6500 to 7000rpm under WOT? Also I have purchased an Alta crank pulley but have read many negative posts about the crank pullies slipping. Anyone out there have problems with the lightweight crank pullies? Thanks

Well, a variation of the Aisin-Warner a/t is on the Volvo S60R/V70R and those motors are putting out 300 hp and 296 ft/lbs.... I don't know if I would go the twin-charge route with the a/t in a MINI, but with s/c reduction pulley, head & cam, header & cat-back, the a/t should be able to handle it. The real issue is what is your driving style - racing from stoplight-to-stoplight will adversely impact even a box-stock MCSa.... Another thing to keep in mind is to completely replace (not just drain and fill the transmission oil pan) the transmission fluid. Replacing the trasmission fluid on something like a 15,000 mile interval will do wonders for transmission lifespan.

Thanks for the reply! Does anyone know the difference in 1/4 times between the auto and standard?

These aren't 1/4 mile cars...

I don't know the difference between 1/4 mile results between the MCS and MCSa, but they are definitely NOT 1/4 mile cars. If you want to run 1/4 mile races, there are any number of cars that cost less than the MINI and will run away and hide from it in the 1/4. Autocrossing is another story. On a course with tight turns, the MINI can humble cars that cost twice (or more) as much.

The Miniusa site lists the manual at 6.8 and the auto at 7.4, 0-60 mph.
Convertible adds .2 to either time.

Very true. If you're interested in the 1/4 mile buy a tricked out Honda or a muscle car.

I understand it is a better road course car than a drag racer but I only have a drag course around my area. I am modifying the car for my girlfriend and she wants to take it to the track when I go with my car. I have a twin turbo 500 whp 350z. Is there any ecu reflashes that will raise the shift point to around 7000 rpms or higher? Thanks- James

if you got GIAC or MTH (?) the redline is raised to 7200, albeit, i dont know if its compatible with the slush box. Someone put on a crank pulley and that changed the rpm shiftpoint from 6500 to 7200 as well. So good luck!

I personally never had a problem although I know a handfull of people who did. It was a manufacturing problem with that particular batch of pullies and the problem was fixed. Other than that I love mine. -- Johan

My 2005 MCS auto with MTH software still shifts at 6750. I haven't found any vendor that offers an increase in the shift point.
