Need a little more info from you guys that have a Apexi SAFC
I have one on my Turbo Cordia, but Ive noticed where some of you have recommened using a Apexi SAFC on the MINI. Those of you that have one, how hard was it to install? Was there a big diffrence after tuning?
Thanks....
Thanks....
Its not hard to install. Its basically 7 wires that tap into the stock wire harness. I took the tops off the connectors to get a better view of what wires are what. Once all cut in, then you just need to go through the setup of Knock, how many cylinders, and so on. Then you need to setup up your fuel maps. To get your most out of it, you would need to take it to the dyno to get the most out of the tune. You need to make sure you get the Apexi Select, which is designed for the German cars including the Mini.
IMO, You'd be better off going with MTH. I have one and it robbed me of 3whp. It helped a little in the midrange, but there seems to definately be more to be had with the more involved tune from a MTH reflash. Plus, by the time you pay to have it tuned on a dyno you'll be in for about the same price.
I like my AFC, basically you have to have the ***** to cut into your wiring. Other than that its all good. With my header, cat-back, crank, and AFC, i went from 163hp to 196hp. Don't really know if that is good though.

You better be carefull.
run the low cost MTH for traction control and rev limit, and the Apexi for fuel tune.
But I think you nailed it, there are two philosophies for tuning minis, more advance while running rich, or less advance while running leaner than stock. If you go much leaner and more advanced, then make sure your knock sensor is working!

I am getting ready to install a safc2 and I am running the MTH Tuner file. I have been real impressed with the MTH, but after having it dyno'd a couple of times, it is running way rich, even for the advance it is running. We wills ee the result in a couple of weeks!

Its a stand alone fuel controller
as for installing the safc, we installed one on my friends supra with good results using piggy back wire clamps and quick change connectors when connecting it to the wiring harness. worked fine. we didnt have the first clue how to tune it, but hey it wasnt my car lol.
the piggyback wire clamp has a razer wire cutter dealy inside of it and when you close it , it pinches the wire and slices a hole in your outer wiring casing making a connection. ymmv
