Webb Mototsport Short Shifter Installed!

Got the Webb Motorsports SS kit installed today. All in all a bish of a job but not due to anything in the parts design. Just the close quarters in the MINI.

First impressions are much shorted throw both laterally and front-back. Solid "snick" on engagement. Slightly higher input force needed to move through the gears. This is a given though as the moment arm of the shifter is "shorter".

I have it setup at the maximal shortening or about 40%. I think it is ideal and don't think I would go less. Nice thing is though, to go easier effort or longer throw, all I need do is pull up the gearlever boot and use a 19mm wrench to loosen the collar, raise up the shifter, and tighten the collar back down.

FYI, if you run this at the lowest setting you cannot replace the gearbox cover under the car as the lower pivot ball hits it. Also if you run a aftermarket CBE with a large resonator it may rub, but I doubt it. I run a Magnaflow and it doen't rub at all. I "customized" the heatshield so it wouldn't hit the shifter.

Thanks again Randy (and Brian) for a great product. Truly motorsport quality.

Not too much to see. I didn't do a DIY as there are about a million of these. The installation is not any different than a B&M or Alta, etc.

It uses all the OEM parts. No bushing changes. It is just like the OEM shifter but shorter with an adjustable collar and length. By raising and lowering the rod in the collar you effectively change the pivot point on the moment arm and thereby alter the % change in throw.

Having driven it more this PM it has loosened up a bit and is only slightly increased shift effort compared to stock. It is much faster for changes between 2nd and 3rd and 4th to 5th. Also there is a more ponounced pop once you get a gear engaged. Shift time is definitly shorter as my revs are doping less compared to before. I can't really compare actual times but this is the best gauge I have is to base it on revs. And yes I know that is all dependent on clutch engagement pedal position etc. Been driving a stick since before gettin my DL so I am pretty consistent though FWIW.

And I refer you to my above response. It looks like a black shift rod, shorter, with the same boot, and same Whalen as I had before. The fancy red collar and everything is under the boot.

I can take a picture of me flexing in the mirror if you want Steve?:impatient

Where you been BTW???? You could see it in person!

I was refering to pics of the shifter installed, not the installtion process. Like, can you snap some pics of what the shifter LOOKS like. IE, how low it sits, etc.

Yep.
You can't run the bottom of the shifter cover. With the adjustment all the way down/maximal shortening it wouild hit it. If you run less shortening you may be able to replace it but it's not really needed.

The heatshield does need to be "customized" a bit. I just used the ball end of a ballpeen hammer. If you have a large resonator/JCW exhaust it may be more of a problem. I didn't have any with the Magnaflow.
