I've never claimed to be the best business man - but I love these cars, and I believe in what we sell and how we have tested. I believe few in the industry know as much about the MINI as we do. I don't want anyone to think I am unreachable because I want to be. I certainly want to be accessible.

I don't expect many of you will use my home number, but I am not hiding from anyone. I want to be sure everyone who needs to get a hold of me can - even if it is at my home (just expect to hear screaming kids playing on the trampoline in the background).

I still have innate trust in my fellow man (or woman), and I have to admit that this job has slightly jaded me. I refuse to let go of the belief that most folks are good - and that if I treat them the way I want to be treated, everyone comes out better. I want to believe that no one will use my number for crank calls, or bother me at 2:00am (which is when I get home from the shop sometimes anyway), but that it will be used legitimately.

It was mentioned above that I am old school by a few folks, and I am. I want every customer to feel like they have my utmost attention when they have me on the phone, and I want to get to know them as people. I love some of my customers - sincerely (and I'm not going to name any , but you know who you are). I would never have developed that if it weren't for the way this community is.

My wife is absolutely amazing, and she has put up with a lot. For those of you who don't know, we have four kids as well. She is a saint! I love spending time with her and the kids, and we haven't had a vacation in the four years we've had this business.

I'm happy to say that I am not headed for the big "D", but this business has driven me close. I have to find a balance, and that's what all of us, including my wife, are doing. Thanks to Brian and James as well for helping sort out our new priorities here at the shop. Webb Motorsports will be the best business - including customer service - in the community (but there are certainly quite a few other great guys that are vendors as well!). Just give us time, and during that period, consider us for your MINI parts!

Thanks!
Randy

I've been following this... and just lacked the fortitude to respond, again.

Randy, you speak from the heart, brutally frank; and I appreciate that, and always have.

Never take my silence to mean that I'm no longer a fan... Take care of yourself, family, and your business.

You missed me? Oh well, I think you just named one! In reference to:

"I love some of my customers - sincerely (and I'm not going to name any , but you know who you are)."

Ya, I know... It was the first one (PP) I missed. I thought about it the entire weekend. Due to a combination of family health matters, and another fricken kidney stone (drink your water folks!!!), I reluctantly balked...

For those who don't know, I organized the first Bay Area Pulley Party; and I truly wanted to participate in the last one, ever. What I find cool, and if I understand correctly, is that last pulley you installed was on Bill's MCS - a new MINI owner, and a guy I met just a couple weeks ago. I referred him to you, and provided a link to your website. Sort of neat how that worked-out...

I also wanted to chat with Jacques at BBM to inquire about a head install later this Summer, and I heard that he got a DFIC, which I wanted to see. Oh well...

If relocation to the Bay Area comes-to-mind, let Craig and I know.

I'm not Randy, but FWIW, I love mine. They definitely improved the comfort around town and they do deliver what they promise in terms of stiffening up in corners in spirited driving. Koni does recommend you run them with your stock springs, so they may not fit the bill if you want to be lowered.

Ah, that reminds me of this picture I took at AMVIV (clickable)

Randy's wife is just off to the left of the frame keeping a watchful eye on their daughter.

I can't just sit and read this. My .02 worth: I've had Randy do the major modifications at various parties (pully, software...) and purchased my exhaust from him. I had problems with the Milltek resonator and he got it resolved. Yes, sometimes it took some extra emails or calls ... but it was always handled.

As a small business owner, I understand we do what we can and at the end of the day hope our family is still there and our customers still care. Keep up the great work Randy - I've learned more about my MINI in the last 3 years from you than anyone, and I still have a blast in it!

Have Fun.

No lowering for me. JCW springs at best. Still my daily driver/ occasional auto-x car.

From the earliest days of MCO/NAM, Randy has generously shared his ever-growing knowledge of our beloved MINIs beginning with the very earliest contributions of excellent how-to's, many times accompanied by clear and instructive photos by Dave.

I would like those who haven't been on here since 2002 to realize what a pioneer Randy Webb is in the MINI world. His work ethic, his absolute love of the MINI, his wonderful sense of humor, and his willingness to go the extra mile to explain things to non-gearheads like myself, have earned him my deepest respect.

Let's give him a chance to reorganize and support him as he has supported so many of us through our own customizing projects on our MINIs.

Being a Proud Member of those who have been blessed to have Randy/Brian work on our cars......Picking his brain from the vast knowlege on our wonderfull cars...A Proud Supporter of the "Feed the Mule" sponsorship....and having gone thru life altering issues....Family is by far #1. I can't imagin doing what he has done over the past few years, being single, let alone having a family to support. Life is WAY too short not to spend time with your spouse, kids, family and friends....It can be taken away in an instant.
I will miss watching Randy work all night to put my BBK on (last June at MMW) or the "E ticket" ride around Laguna Seca in my car last December, or Brian installing the swaybar 'n crank pulley, or just hangin' last Saturday in Oakland.
Randy.....you have to do what is best for you and your family
We will survive, although, all of us would want to have you in our garage every weekend.....but take care of family (#1), you (#2) and business (#3)....
If #1 and #2 are in order...then #3 will be a piece of cake.!! If you burn yourself, out then #1 'n #3 don't mean "jack"!
Long Live The Mule.......................
just my .02 worth.
WMS.........My door is always open........just not at 2am!!

Hey guys,
I've got to throw in my .02 here as well. I'm a little embarrassed at the fact that I usually find these threads after the fact (due to life demands), when a reply would be a bit of a Moot point... Believe me, I understand what being busy means (Wife, kids, Job, own a business, teach, etc).

In my estimation, Randy is more than just a pioneer in terms of performance development of our beloved MINIs, he's about as close as it comes to being a good will ambassador, and an enthusiast's enthusiast, dolling out free technical information and suggestions for ways to accomplish what each of our goals for our cars are, as opposed to trying to make a quick buck. God only knows how many times he's talked me out of buying things that I didn't need, or helping me to reprioritize my mods list so that I'd be pleased with my purchases. You don't find that kind of honesty, candor, and sincerity very often. His integrity is something to be admired.

He's probably done more to advance the MINI community than about anyone else I know of... often being slighted in high profile Mini articles and press events, because he chose to be out doing pulley installs, instead of bragging about how great his latest Mega horsepower package was through exaggerated numbers. If anything, he can sometimes be too honest, by refusing to contribute to the cloud of marketing BS that seems to haunt the performance industry, and relaying actual performance experience backed up by dyno numbers and honest comparisons.

I was a very early adopter for many of the mods that we all have on our MINIs, and have been a long-time, enthusiastic customer of WMS. As many of us have found, performance parts can have their issues, and Randy has always stood behind his products and his promises, and provided outstanding support, albeit taking a little longer at times than either of us would like.
I have also had the good fortune of meeting and spending some time with Randy, his wonderful wife and kids, and I don't think you could give them enough credit for their support and understanding for the demands that WMS has imposed on their time with him. They are truly good people, and you'll never meet anyone more hospitable.

I'm relieved to hear that he's not going to the Big "D", probably yet another indication of his love for, and loyalty to MINIs and the MINI community. I'm sorry to hear that the pulley parties will be a thing of the past, and feel badly that I couldn't get one last one together quickly enough to have him back out here in the Midwest (Idiot! Gosh!), as the other two we've done here were not only informative, but truly enjoyable, with hearty laughs and ribbing enjoyed by all.

Thanks to you and your family (wife and kids) and your extended family (Brian, James, Bridgett and crew) for all the hard work. I know it's been tough, and on the business side, but I appreciate that you've always taken care of me, and I really appreciate you all.

Your inspiration and advice has helped me not only to dramatically increase my MINI knowledge and enhance my motoring enjoyment, but helped me to be able to, in a small way, share this incredible hobby with others Miniacs, and help them to same.

Thanks for all you (All) do.

Have a good one!
Cheers all!
Brian (MinMax)

I dont think WMS sells those anymore.

If it's a pulley or intake you are looking for, I highly reccomend the WMS products. In my opinion they are a little bit superior than the Alta.

WOW! I posted an innocent question and got 4 pages of replies. This is the longest thread I've ever started. Glad I did. Seems like there was a lot of @#$% people needed to get off their chest...plus Randy cleared the air and I got a Webb phone number that a human being answers. Thank you NAM!

Now, are the hoses ready for the Induction Box and can someone provide CONCISE all-around street-only alignment specs for an H&R lowered MCS?

Glad you got in touch with one of us.

As for an alignment, there isnt all that much you can do with stock parts. If you have an 05+ you can get a little camber out of the rear, but its less than a degree. You will mainly be messing with toe. I would suggest going back to stock unless you feel like you want more turn in. Try a little toe out in the front(1/8 inch at the most) and set the rear to nuetral if you want it more aggressive.

belbs, I posted about the hose on Randy's own forums. He said that they are still having issues with the supplier. Apparently, they are available but not at a reasonable cost. If you find anything else out, let me know. I'm about ready to order an HDI myself.
