200mph MINI is it possible?

I was pondering this tonight... while watching a documentary on the Gumball 3000. Many of the cars in that are fully capable of reaching it. I was wondering is there any way possible, anything ridiculous you could do, to be able to make 200mph in a MINI Cooper S and not for just a few seconds, sorta long duration here im talking.

All of these speeds would be on a track that would allow it, or on closed public highways like many on the famous Gumball 3000.

so pretty much a new gearbox is needed. Maybe like a 7 or 8 speed gearbox would be good. WOW that's extreme.

I'm just gathering thoughts here... You never know a couple years down the road with some sponsorships, you could see some NAMers taking the Gumball in a MINI Cooper S Supercar. And I'm not joking.

I'm no aerospace engineer, but I have reservations about the aerodynamics of the MINI at such speeds. . . .

Is it possible? yes. Is it expansive? yes.

Gearing would be a big limit also I think you'd need to be pulling in decent HP, and at 200 MPH I think special attention to the Aero should be consider esp. for extended travel at such speed (Splittler, read diffuser, smoothing out underbody, lowering and such) with possible wind tunnel testing, the MINI is an aero brick so you'd have to be 100% sure the car wouldn't get real loose at speed. It could handle it, but would need to be adjusted from stock for stability.

Oh and BTW MPG at 200, would suck due to aero so be sure to make provisions for a larger fuel tank.

over sized tires and wheels would make it possible...and well since there is 600 HP possible out of the mini...LOL I guess we just need some road...enough road would do it....LOL salt flats anyone?

Now you got the wheels in my head turning, as a result of needing to run extended periods of time under significant boost, you'll also need to change the IC, but at speed air will completely miss the hood scoop, so the IC would need to be a lower front mount, so might just as soon save the weight and dump the A/C. Also the MINI has the known weakness of brakes and at 200 MPH thats one thing you don't want to worry about.

I was thinking of this earlier I'd be interested to see where the MINI actually topped out in a stock to Stage 1.

What would terminal velocity of a MINI be off a cliff ?

Considering it takes 500HP of the Bugatti Veyrons 100HP to get it up over 200mph, with the aerodynamics of that car in consideration..... I think it is highly unlikely that even a 600HP MINI could make it up over 200mph.

Any engineers want to pipe up??

Not sure but it doesn't matter, this is powered travel, just need HP, gearing and the aero to keep the wheels to the ground.

To be realistic here... I doubt anyone goes that fast on the Gumball even though most of the highways are closed, but it would be nice. I mean there are alot of Bentley Conti GTs out there in it and they top out at 200 and they tend to do well. I guess In reality though I think 185+ is a little bit more towards what were lookin at here.

That would be something though... Fly by an Gallardo and leave them thinkin. WHAT WAS THAT? A MINI COOPER??? I DEFINETLY AM STARTING TO SEE THINGS!

Well Mikey I guess the key here is to find us a tranny that can handle the speed.

vertically? no problem.

horizontally? maybe on salt flats with a slant nose conversion. and lots of race gas. while youre at it.... throw in a Supercharged M3 engine and make it RWD.

I think it is by no means unattainable on a highspeed test track or the Autobahn with some extra attention given to Gearing and aerodynamics, and I bet you could still keep a close to stock appearance so beyond 300 ft nobody would be the wiser, maximize the efficeny and control the airflow and I don't see it being unattainable.

You must remeber there are other numbers that are far more important than HP. Gearing is the biggest obstacle.

hwy 15 anyone?

gumball just went down it, what the weekend before last?

salt lake city to vegas, there is a 200 mile stretch of no speed limit...

I dont think you will ever see a mini going 200+ the people that are serious about driving 200+ don't buy mini's to do it in...

True, for now. But I think it would be a wonderful means to test new technology and products along with breaking a barrier of what was thought impossible. And if you could do it in a manner that the MINI could still go around bends, I think one could have a blast.

I know this. But we don't exactly have $600k+ to spend on this project. And that would defeat the purpose. The purpose is to have a MINI Cooper S that could make a run at 1st place in the Gumball. However you figure it, it's gunna take work. If I wanted to do it easily I could. Just take my dad's Mullinger Flying Spur and drop about $20k into that and soup it up, and just take off the governor which is at 195mph right now and you could easily do this. But AGAIN that's not the point. The point is to represent MINI, and the awesome car it is.

Gut Nacht!

Aerodynamically, I would be scared to go that fast in a MINI...

Hmmmm... I wonder if Redbull would be interested in sponsoring some younger guys making a MINI go fast enough to to scare the seasoned Ferrari owners?

I tried to do it this year, but I don't have £40,000 for the entry fee :/

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=66973

So now I'm selling, getting rid of the car payment, getting a faster car. Saving up so I can be in gumball/players run/ballers run(one of them) before im 25 (5 years)
