the AFC can be a good way of fine tuning your fueling. May it be just getting the last bit of power out of your car on the basic mods(pulley, exhaust, header etc..), or if you've added larger injectors and you have no way of gaining access to changing the mini code yourself. idealy you want to have it done at a dyno, basically because its in a controlled environment with no distractions from driving and doing the tuning yourself. Of course, you would want the dyno to have a technician knowledgeable on how to use the afc. You could do it yourself, you would just need a wideband reader to test your A/F ratios while you drive. You would basically do a 3rd or 4th gear pull from about 2000 rpms at WOT to redline and fine adjust the air fuel ratio to the ideal numbers on your WB. This is alot cheaper, but you run the risk, in your ignorance of tuning, to run ultra lean and do permanent damage to your motor.
In the next few months i will be adding a turbo to my car, which will facilitate larger injectors, for the money, the AFC is a combination which is hard to beat. You just need to treat the AFC with respect and know when its worth spending the money for a proper tune at a dyno. The AFC only does fueling so keep that in mind. I already have the GIAC, with the increased redline and better ignition profile, so the addition of better fueling will hopefully give me a tidy increase in power.

i have a SAFC, i had it fine tuned on the dyno and then i just let it sit in the glove box. its great though because it can be done right then and there, no waiting for some guy in germany to send you some files or whatever. Time on the dyno does cost money though.

so using the safc and some other tune, like mth or giac will be the best way to go. Im just trying to find a safe ecu mod the can get the most power out safely.

thanks, tim
