Have you seen this HAI thread?

https://www.northamericanmotoring.com...&highlight=HAI

I ordered the KN1520, from AJUSA and it has been 2 weeks and nothing in yet. I think the KN 1550 may fit better. But don't know too much, because I don't have it yet..

Not sure why the link wont work anymore. There were 19 pages about the HAI. Maybe you can find it in a search.

The thread talked mainly about the K&N 1520 and 1550. The 1550 is the one I'm running, it has the bottom flange at an angle which is supposed to make the seating on the throttle body more secure/easier.

So is the HAI something just came into existence from people experimenting here on NAM?

It seems like all i do is buy the 1520 K&N filter and bolt it on...

I'm a little leary about personally tearing apart my intake and putting this on instead...

Pretty much.
The factory intake goes back together pretty easily if you want to reverse it.

Macncheese came up with it

and Andy did a lot of the initial testing. But all the stock parts go right back in, if you need to do it. I can put the stock intake back in in about 5-10 min. No big deal.

How do you guys put those factory clamps back on. I have yet to find a consistent way of putting them back. Sometimes, I just leave them off.

Some go the way of the dodo

and for ones where I can get the head of one of my pairs of pliers, I can put them back on. But for things like the bypass valve, I just replaced them with standard hose clamps.

Some have reworked some pliers to get the grip that is needed.

The labor involved in putting the HAI in seems a bit tricky.. has anyone done this easily?

It's the easiest install there is!

All the CAIs require removal of the same parts. This only requires the clamping of a filter onto the throttle body with a standard hose clamp, and putting a filter onto the vent line with a hose clamp. Every other requires some replacement of the air box housing and some require the replacement of the TB-Airbox hose.

Really, I can go from stock to HAI in about 5 minutes, if all the parts are on the bench. Same with the other way around.

I agree with the Dr. Any intake (with the exception of the M7 AGS) should be under 15 mins for anyone with the most basic mechanical skills.

My mechanical skills are about as basic as they come..!

Thanks for all the helpful tips!

I was thinking, since I'm picking up my new MCS in chicago from the dealer in a few weeks and he offers free installation plus 10% off on anything I order from him, that maybe I should consider something to take advantage of that deal? Is there anything i could do for reasonable $$ in this situation before driving off the lot?
