Front mount intercooler

This new M7 toy has me all fired up! It got me thinking about the front mount that used to be on Webbs web site. Aside from the crazy price does anyone (WMS..??) have any solid info on this thing? I believe its originally from Dastek...the OG Unichip people. I remember reading somewhere it's loud.

Yes haters I did a search but did not find much. I even peeked on Mini2 (I really don't like that site) but did not find a whole lot of tech info...mostly opinions from bench scientists.

There was discussion of that on MINI2. Supposedly lots of problems...

Plumbing is a *****.

PM Randy for some straight answers. One of the cars at Phil Wicks had some Gintani set up on it. Who knows if it's a one-off or a production prototype.

The best set up I've seen for front mount was on Peterson's race car. But it used a different SC exit piece, and cut up some of the front of the car to route the air. Like I said, plumbing is a *****.....

Ok what the heck is this Gintani thing? I seen pics but couldn't really figure out what exactly it's supposed to do.

From what I've seen/heard, it is still in development...

Actually, there were 4 cars with the Gintani air-charge intake manifold...Randy Webb's car, 2 Gintani in-house cars, and mine. All but mine were on the track, and Randy's was in the formal race. It looks like Randy will be racing his Gintani-equipped car at Sebring this coming weekend.... BTW, the plumbing for the Gintani system is fairly straight forward.

It's a water to air intercooler.....

So there's a radiator that is used to cool the water, and a water to air heat exchanger built into an integrated intake manifold.

Compare that to the standard water to air set up, that leave the stock intake manifold in place, and use a water-jacketed TMIC in the stock location.

The old front mount from Webb is dead, can't get it, you don't want it

It was fixed, the engine moved, connection was bad, sounded cool !!!

I can't imagine a 30hp gain just from an IC though, which is shown on their website.

I might agree, though 20 is very realistic.

Yea!! Really!! Thank God you never see any of that here

There's a ton of tech info just not tuning info. 2 different things.

Remember, the Gintani system is not just an intercooler, but an intake manifold with integral liquid-air intercooler...

Fill the resevoir with crushed ice,

and then see what happens. Good technique for 1/4 mile stuff, no good for road races though....

Photo credit on these goes to Swarley, I just took mine as more oh heres an engine, If you PM Nuzzo motorsports they might be able to give some better photos or a more detailed idea of what was involved. All of the plubimg looked like it was 100% custom done by the guys in the shop.

Thanks, I wanted to see how they did the SC outlet. I know it can be changed, the thing is plumbing it to the front.

There's more of Nuzzo's car and FMIC in that forum here (I took them last year at Laguna)...

The only thing Tony is that in a race car you can delete a lot of stuff that would get in the way of plumbing a front mount.

It's not just the hp from a water-to-air...its the consistancy..you are gonna get the same cooling at a stop light as you will on the highway. So dynoing these are very easy because you don't really have to try to simulate air flow

So, then what cools the water?

OK...now does anyone have anything to say about the Webb FMIC that used to be on his site..!!

PLEASE do NOT let your response be "it's expensive"! I already know that! Anything else would be nice. I heard it's friggan loud! I am wondring why they no longer offer it? I would call but they never answer so whats the point.
