Too good to be true?

When I get my S I am looking to mod it, but am concerned about warranty issues....

However, Ralph Schomp MINI in CO says they install Stage Kits from Mini Mania without voiding the factory warranty. This sounds like a great deal compared to the Works package as the stage 2 kit for example (intake, pulley, and borla exhaust) is only slightly over $1,000.

Here's the catch. They charge $3,800 for parts and installation. Should it really cost $2,800 to install these 3 parts or are they totally ripping people off on the fact that they will honor the warranty if they do the installation at the dealership?

At this price, the kit doesn't even seem such a good value anymore because it is less power and smoothness than JCW to begin with...

What do you think?

I think if you are on Long Island it's a long drive to Colorado to get your MINI serviced, because although Schomp may honor the warranty I doubt MINI of the Hamptons will. In addition, I agree $2800 is far too much for labor to install those parts.

I'd say the cost of installation pretty much covers most warranty repairs in advance, then again the works kit sort of is the same way. "give us enough to completely replace your motor in advance and we'll happily cover the car with our wonderful warranty" But thats just my cynical opinion, and coming from a guy who hasn't mod'd his car cause he wants to maintain his warranty.

I currently live in Colorado becacuse I'm an undergrad student here. I am going to buy the MCS from Hassel MINI on LI and have it delivered to Schomp anyway.

The install costs of a pulley, exhaust and intake at the local Mini Tuner in town would be about $ 425 TOPS . You do the math.

That's what I thought! It's as if the price difference from having Schomp install it and having a local tuner install it is enough money to fix anything on it that breaks on it with a void warranty.

Dude!!

You're like 10 miles from Webb Motorsports!! Screw that dealer and take a ride down to see Randy, Brian and Bridgette and they'll hook your Mini up, not to mention a fine 2 yr. 24,000 mile warranty... even if you track your car!

Sweeeeet! More info please!

I am going to be ordering the car later this month and Hassel Mini says it will take another 8 weeks to be delivered. So I could potentially do the mods sometime early this summer.

By the way I'm currently very close to Colorado Springs, so it is prob more than 10 miles, but still not unmanageably far.

Just to be clear... Webb Motorsports is in Highlands Ranch, Colorado... I presume you're not in NY anymore.

That's all you need to know!

Ask anyone.... Randy is one of the most trusted and best Mini tuners in this country. Can't say enough about them.
