Drivetrain John Cooper S Mods
>>I now have official information regarding the peformance upgrade package that I was told of and offered by Mini of Sterling. They also confirmed that the price of the Cooper Works package when it became available would be in the $5,000+ range
>>
>>The package is NOT the Cooper Works package being discussed on this thread as I originally thought. What the package does consist of is a reprogrammed ECU, cold air intake and Borla stainless steel exhaust. The package adds $2,500 to a Cooper S and claims a 30 HP addition.
>>
>>The upgrade is covered under Mini warranty.
>>
>>Does anyone have any thoughts about the level of improvement one could expect from these upgrades?
>>
>>Btw, I am on the clock. I placed my order for an Indi Blue MCS/White w/premium and sport packages.
>>
>>
I would just do the exhaust for $600, the intake for $240, and the ECU for $750. You will be well under that $2500 mark. I think you are paying for the same upgrade to be completely honest - they have a working relationship with MINI-Madness at Sterling, so they are probably selling the "Stage 1" MINI-Madness kit and covering any problems that crop up out of their own pocket. With that going on, I can't see them giving you flak for doing it yourself - and saving quite a bit in the process. I would also ask for proof of the 30 hp.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

also, u guys r right about the 200 hp mark. 200 hp is not that much of a difference. even on the Mini2 site it says it increaes 0-60 from 6.9 to 6.7, wow... .2 of a second?!?! 230 from Randy would be a lot more, but.... warranty is a big issue and 230 hp is gonna cost a lot of money.
My Hartge Cooper S produced 210hp and once traction isnt a problem it gets to 100mph in 16.1 secs which is about 6 secs faster than the standard Cooper S. The 30-70 time has also signicantly improved.
In my VW track experience, Mintex don't work much better than stock. I had smoke pouring off all 4 wheels every time I went into the pits. Get Porterfield or some other racing-specific pads with high quality fluid and bleed, bleed, bleed!
If you do a search on MINI2.com is seems Porterfield have major quality problems, infact dam right dangerous. I for one will be sticking with what I know.
There is already aftermarket companys in the uk offering 220hp upgrades.

To be honest I think 210hp is more than enough even with sticky Toyo's traction is sometimes a big problem.

>>
>>The standard Cooper S 0-60 is around 7.4 secs, not 6.9 secs what you have to remember is like all FWD cars they struggle for traction...and 6.7 secs sounds about right for the extra increase in power..

>>I want road / race pads not race pads, I want them to operated well from cold I had Mintex 1144 compound on my TVR Cerbera and they worked really well with no problem with fade.
