We had some nice (relative to last week) weather here in NJ so I performed a little experiment today at lunch with some filters and my OBDII logger.

I ran the car at WOT from 2000 RPM up to redline in second gear, on the same road, in the same direction, from (approximately) the same starting point.

The filters were:
Stock Paper
2 stage Foam POD filter 2.5" x 6"
K&N Oval 4.25" x 7"

The filters were attached to the stock rubber intake tube via a short length of 2.5" exhaust pipe and a hose clamp. No heatshield was used in this test. I will post a heatshield version later next week, weather permitting.

Kinda odd that you are not seeing 11PSI at redline; that is where it should be.

Im in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. The data logger is a lot of fun and you can learn a lot from it. Its similar to the CARCHIP thing but its alot nicer, i think the carchip samples once every 5 seconds and I'm sampling at 20 samples per second.

You're right, the carChip product really lags on each read @ 5 seconds. Who makes the data logger that you're running that records every 1/20th of a second?

I'm currently logging with some Palm based software called Pocket Logger, and a cable provided by them. This is one of the few logging programs designed for performance, instead of diagnostics, so it optimizes the sample rate for each car. The limit of the cable is around 20...

amazing graphs macncheese!

I wonder what other types of data you can log with your palm...could get interesting.

The K&N seems to have about a half PSI peak advantage; what does your butt-meter tell you in terms of power?

What kind of palm device are you using? I just sold my 515 and upgraded to a tungsten and I see from pocketlogger.com that it doesn't support OS 5.0 yet.

Where is the plug-in in the MINI?

Do you have a car mount for your pda?

This sounds really cool!

Andy,
I picked up a VIIx from Office Depot for like 46 bucks, I use it just for datalogging (ok maybe a little bit of Palm SimCity :smile

The mini's plug is under the dash on the driver's side, to the left. There is a little cover you pop open and plug it in. I dont have a car mount, just the driver's side parcel shelf so I start my logging and place the palm on the shelf while' I'm zooming around.

Thanks Cheese,

I could probably pick up an older palm device on ebay for next to nothing.

How did you make the chart?

I convert the pocket logger data to CSV data and import it into Microsoft Excel and graph away. Your best bet is to get a palm that has a syncing cable and not a cradle, unless you wanted to mount the cradle in your car somehow, which might be kinda neat or kinda cumbersome.... otherwise you'll have to buy a sync cable. good luck with it.

Cheese,

Could you e-mail me the specifics of where to get the logger?

Thanks,
Randy
