Installed Alta Intake - Very pleased with results

First, thanks to randy for this very well done HowTo!

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=15124

Start to finish was 45 minutes, nothing wrong with that.

Next, big thank you to Coast to Coast, who not only had a great price, but also dropped the intake of at my wife's work to save her the trip in the busy holiday season! Thank you!!!! And, of course, my wife who bought it for me!
-------

I am pleased with the intake. Easy to install, everything just fit right. No huge gains, but the mid-range feels a bit stronger, like the car isn't working as hard to move. (or, like it is breathing easier! I am sure that this will help a lot after I add a pulley.

IMHO, the sound is not as loud as people make it out to be. It is definatly louder than stock, but I think it sounds good. (you, of course, may feel differently!) Just gives the car some more, growl, and a little scream at the top. It's kind of wild, throttle tip in reminds me of the BOV on my turbo miata....only it's when you open the throttle, as opposed to when it closes.

We will see what my wife thinks of it when we go out tonight. I'll add some more input after I put some more miles on it, and then add this to the review section after i have some more info on it.

cheers!

-jac

I didn't note a after market exhaust in your signature. That will make it more noticeable--seat of the pants and noise. Ofcourse, the pulley is the whip cream. Enjoy.

Thanks for the kind words. Once you get a pulley installed you will no longer need a radio. Just put the windows down and let the sweet sound of supercharger whine pacify your eardrums.

I agree with you that the noise isn't loud. It's my first car with a CAI so I'm not sure how loud it could be. I don't have any exhaust yet. I usually listen to my ipod and most of the time I can't hear the CAI because my music is pretty loud.
Hopefully there'll be more noise when I put in a new exhaust. Waiting for Summer time.

I have the ALTA CAI and just installed an ALTA SPORT TUNED EXHAUST and it made a big deference, next is the pully. Good luck with yours.

Does a 15% pulley void the factory warranty?

Yes, in the sense that if your engine breaks, particularly if there's a problem with the supercharger, some dealers may charge you for the repair instead of doing it under warranty.

Funny, we were in the car for about 20 minutes before my wife asked what was wrong with the iPod "Sounds like bad static!" Stomped on it, and mentioned that I installed my Intake. Doesn't really care for it... We'll take her's on long trips!

Anyway, pulley will be next, most likely a 19%, I like a lot of mid-range. As for the exhaust, looking around at those as well. Really need to hear some in person.

Then, just enjoy the sounds....

Next time, take advantage of our extensive parts catalog as well!

Glad you are happy with the product.

Thanks!

I have had the Alta Intake installed recently. I mostly like it, but I get a periodic high-pitched whistle at about 3000 rpms. Anyone have a thought?

That is a normal throttle body sound - you get a lot more noises with the open design of the air box and the higher flow of the foam filter.

Hope that helps!

Yep. At light throttle opening.
Pretty common.

I did mine yesterday too, just as pleased, in fact I took it on a 200 mile test drive, just looking for a reason to ponce on the throttle. I love that sound, and hearing the TB open up. I now understand the performance slippery slope. I ended up ordering from a local vendor I had heard good things about, I'll definitely be contacting Webb when I'm ready to do more.
