Drivetrain DiD: Pics of Randy's MINI
>>Here are a few pics I took of Randy's MINI while it still had the numbers on it from the autocross (you've taken those of by now right?).
I ran across Randy yesterday, I was having lunch in his neighborhood and he stopped by to check out my MINI and gave me a ride. Sweet car.
The answer is, NO, he has not taken the numbers off.

No problem for me if you want to leave the numbers on. Looks pretty good with them.
But, I think that might be a ticket waiting to happen.

I am a ******!
I was beat after having to work the 5th heat of the day, so I didn't get the numbers off, and realized it about halfway home.
Then, the car was in the garage for a couple of days while I was working on some things, so I never bothered.
Then, ficcion came over and we installed his new Magnaflow, got about halfway through, and had to have food. Again, didn't get the numbers off as we were trying to get the job done.
To mnake matters even worse, we were rushing to get ficcion's car finished to make it to a MINI5280 board meeting that same night - and once again, I didn't get the numbers off and realized it halfway there!
I promise the numbers aren't on the car now - honest!

Sorry, your quick honest response, plus your general automotive tuning knowledge, and your additional expertise on the Mini Cooper S, almost preclude you from being a ******. Still, almost. The numbers violation is an almost automatic, dude. You know the rules.

Randy,
Sorry if you posted this elsewhere, but can you list what you have done to your car to date? I am getting close to buying some nice performance pieces from you (waiting for tax refund). Are those the stock V-Spokes with Azenis (what size)? As for right now I want:
1) Magnaflow or UUC (can't wait to see your evaluation)
2) Madness Intake
3) Rear Swaybar

Well, I've had several different intakes and exhausts on the car, so I'll give you the current setup:
Madness Intake
MINI-Motorsport Airbox mod
Big Bore Throttle Body
15% Reduction MINI-Motorsport Pulley
ECU Tuning
Catalyst London Stainless Header
Magnaflow Cat-back Exhaust
Redline Oil
Redline MTL
H&R Springs (soon to be replaced with LEDA Coilovers)
Madness rear swaybar
Prototype Camber Plates
Motul Brake Fluid
Power Slot Rotors
Prototype pads (soon)
Cooperflags UJ
Monza Wheels (not yet mounted) 16x6.5 13.9 lbs
Falken Azenis 215/45-16
UUC Shiftknob
I think that's most of it.

RandyBMC, ****** or whatever your alias is...(hope its not bugger!!)
Also I have the Magnaflow and Madness intake combo. I feel the need for more speed
,taking into consideration I'm not looking to mess with the warranty issues, at least not just yet. Any suggestions? and my name is Randy too...so I suffer from the same affliction..

Actually, the last sound clip and the highway driving are both wiht the header - I didn't notice much volume increase at all.
As for the next mod - maybe the throttle body, but that could potentially void the warranty as well. The good thing about it, is that it is easy to change it back to the stock one - if you decide to just pay the core and keep it.
The next gain you are going to see would be the pulley mod, but again, another show stopper for the warranty.
I think you may be stuck until the end of the warranty period. You could do the header and the throttle body, but that's about it (besides the controversial Nology or Magnacor wires).
Hope that helps you randy bugger

Thanks for the info. Guess I got some thinking to do about warranty issues. You'll be the first to know when the decision is made.
I've always had a problem with the plug wire concept. Fuel/air mixture, under pressure is explosive enough. My thought, (and it may be wrong), is that a spark is a spark is a spark. This compressed, supercharger, explosive mixture is going to light like a roman candle just as easily with a stock wire or an aftermarket overpriced Magnacor/ Nology. Just my opinion.

hey randy, ur cooper is awesome. how much HP total??
also, wat is this UUC exhaust? dont u have magnaflow??
i would love to put just a couple of those upgrades in to achieve 200 hp and just have an added kick, i dont need that much speed. also, my pockets arent that deep.
also, how come no exterior mods?? no shorty antenna? no aero kit (even though not neccesary on S), no painted arches? just wonderin. is your car lowered??
also, wat warranty issues would i have to deal with?

. It will be priced higher than the Magnaflow, but has been estimated at less than $900 (although how much less hasn't been determined yet).
As far as warranty issues go, that seems to be based on your local dealer. Check with them. I've heard anything from zero tolerance to sure, a pulley and the ECU are fine. I would say you are safe with the exhaust and an intake at the minimum.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
