Minimania Stage 3 clutch/ Altrik Flywheel

Hello All!

I am thinking of buying this kit but was hoping for some feedback from people who has used them!

I know lots are running with the fidanza flywheel but is the minimania item any different?

Any opinions or ideas on other combos would be appriciated

My car is oct 04 build and i am looking at fitting a quaife LSD at the same time as clutch/Flywheel!

Thanks,Rick.

I guess the big question is who makes the MM clutch/fw? I'm sure it is rebadged.

BTW, you have it backwards. LSD much more important than the clutch/fw. I added my fw while I was adding the LSD just so I wouldn't have another huge labor bill.

Having just switched from a stage 2 to stage 3 clutch, there is a big difference. I don't know about the Ultrik, but the spec stage 3 setup is not nearly as smooth as the stage 2. If you're not twin charging or doing a whole lot of drag racing, you may want to go with a stage 2 at first. The drivability is much easier.

Hi Ricky,

I have it on good authority (from when I had stuff fitted at MM UK) that the flywheel, clutch etc are all rebranded Spec items and not bespoke to MM unless they commissioned the design?

Cheers,

Henry

what do you mean the drivability... ? I have been thinking of getting Mini-maddess setup for $799.

is it really hard to drive a stage 3 clutch on the street? explain...

It's not really hard, it's really......annoying. You need more gas and more attention to feathering the clutch. This isn't a biggie in, say, Nebraska, but here in western PA I have to use the ebrake to launch on a steep hill otherwise I get squealing tires or bog. I also have a squeak just before the clutch fully engages. Combine this with the rattling idle of the lightweight flywheel and you'll want to be pretty sure you really need the performance changes you'll get from this mod.

I don't think hard to drive is the right word. I'm sure you'll get used to it. Currently, i am still having a bit of a difficult time engaging 1st without stalling. And everyone else who has driven the car has definitely commented about the clutch. I let someone move the car earlier and he stalled about 3 or 4 times just backing out the driveway and parking on the street. Compared to stock, the stage 2 is much closer. Easing off the peddle, everything is smooth. It's easy to be smooth, that's it.
With the stage 3, it's a quite a bit jerkier. :impatient There's much less easing into any gear. So, yes it does make the car feel more modded and decreases the "streetablity".
If you are pushing enough horses for the stage 3, then go for it. If not, why not keep the smoothness of the stage 2. For me, it was thought to be necessary step. If i thought the stage 2 would hold up and had a choice, I'd have stayed with it. This is definitely a mod that you can feel and is on the line between track performance and street that might make one say, i'll save this for the track. Right now, it feels like i have a track car that is driven on the street.

Thanks for the replies...

I do not think the mods I have require a stage3... Specially if I have to sacrifice drivability... I live in Miami and traffic ( :impatient ) here is painful.

So I think ill go with the stage 2...

Now about the flywheel noise... Is it really loud? I one of those people they can hear every single little noise the car makes and goes crazy about it...
Is the power gain worth the noise?

Thanks again

Let's put it this way: Somebody at a red light asked me if my mini was a diesel! On the other hand you only hear it in neutral with your foot off the clutch.

It's not bad. Some are louder than others. If your going to pull the transmission for the LSD, it would probably be a good ideato do the whole package. If you're going to pull it for the clutch, you might want to wear the one you have down 1st. The stock clutches are not bad at all.

IMHO the lsd is the only reason to pull the tranny (unless your clutch is already toast). The clutch and fw are both "while-you're- at-its". I did the fw because I autocross. Knowing what I know now I wouldn't do it for the street. I agree that I'd only go stage 3 for major hp (my mini will be at helix on the 28th for the turbokompressor ).

Well I was actually thinking of doing it for my throwout something... well I'm not sure what it is... but it make a noise when I don't have my clutch pushed in while at idle. I had a few people tell me it is the throwout baring on the clutch !?!?!?!... so I figure I get that replaced and do the stage up clutch and lightweight flywheel.
I have been wanting to take it to the dealer... but I have a feeling they will not fix the noise for free since I habe a few modifications.

But with this new info im starting to think the noise might be my flywheel and its normal... in anycase I'm a little confused now...:impatient
