I just got my car back from Prestige via flatbed after they refused to deal with car, citing the mods. I have an EML and DSC light on (posted previously), causing the car to go into LIMP and idle yo-yo from 500-1500 as well as sputtering when i press accelerator.

I started it up to check it, and with the hood open, i heard a HISSING sound when the car would power down during the yo-yo idle. Could this be a big clue into my woes or is this normal? It would be a normal idle, engine sounding good...then all of a sudden a big power down sound and then a HISSSS.

Was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Thanks so much, Bri

ps- dr O i private messaged you this in case you didnt run into it in forums

As I said in your other thread, I had the same exact problem this past weekend had to have it towed to Habberstad, turned out to be a defective MAP sensor cost $43.50 .

I've seen the hose from the pcv valve go soft and collapse. It makes more of a honking noise. There was a recall on it.
If thats not, it look for a vacumm leak. It should not be hissing.

Had the same problem putting the race car back together.

An intake runner/intercooler rubber boot was pinched from underneath.

Is the hiss a continuous noise, or does it just stop? The S/C efficiency valve makes a hiss. ...A SSSsssss noise, as pressure is released at shutoff.

A lot of folks aren't familiar with the shut down hiss. Unless you're listening for it and the window's down you might miss it altogether.

If it's a pronounced but decreasing hiss, then its almost certainly the SEV - normal & unrelated

I'm not sure if that's what it was, it was happening as the car was idling and i was staring at the engine hoping to see something, anything.

'Winston' was just picked up by triple a and is now being flat-bedded to Eric over at Helix in Philly. I'm not sure when he'll be able to get around to it, but I have faith that he'll be able to figure out what the problem is and resolve it.

I will post results as soon as my MINI is fixed for everyone's reference just in case -god forbid - this problem should arise with a fellow NAM'er.

Thank you all so much for your input, I love the way MINI owners try to help each other out, like one Big MINI famlily

watch out for that un-scrupuluous Helix! it may come back with a new set of tranny gears, a turbo and capable of a 11 sec 1/4 mile. or maybe just some stickers about dog nuts.

I'll settle for a jersey, a six-pack of yards and a working car. But really, Eric, feel free to throw in the TurboCompressor kit, yanno, if you're feeling ambitious and what not, THAT would be the dog's cojones!
