Drivetrain 3% and 4% crank pulleys
3% and 4% crank pulleys
Hi All,
I am going to get a lightweight crank pulley for my 03 MCS wth Alta 15% reduction already installed. Alta now makes 3% and 4% pulleys and wondering if I should consider one of these. I can't find any posts about these; only 0% and 2%.
My basic question is does this create the same load as a 19% (or 18%) reduction pulley or is it safer? I have been cautious about any loads above the 15% reduction pulley.
I am also in the process of MTH Cartuner file...yay!
Thanks
John

Yes the 3% and 4% crank pulley will change the total of the sc reduction. I.E. adding the 3% crank pulley would be equal to 18% total. The difference being that you would not have the smaller radius of using an equivilent 18% sc pulley. That is a good thing and would make you belt last longer and have less chance for failure. You also get the benifit of less crankshaft pulley weight which should get you a slightly faster throttle responce. The downside is you will not have a crankshaft dampener. There has been many threads on this subject as to wether or not it is needed. So far as I know there have not been any failures directly linked to this mod. I hope this helps.
