Tell me how to get more power, more low end, and more speed for a generally affordable price

I think from your signature line, you have an S.

Intake $239
Magnaflow $599

That will give you a great gain and keep you relatively on the cheap. The Magnaflow isn't for everyone, but since you're local, just show up to Coors Field North lot tomorrow and you can hear it for yourself - there's an SCCA autocross that I'll be running in with the Magnaflow.

Beyond those two mods, you start spending money as well as getting into warranty issues.

MiniPilo (another MCO member) is working on a similar intake to the Madness, but it comes in a kit and may be cheaper. I'll get one next week and be running it on the dyno for him.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I've just done those mods myself, and am impressed (and happy).

What do you suggest for the non-s crowd?

Try checking the other recent threads - there's been a bunch of discussion on exhausts for the Cooper lately. The power gains from intake/exhaust are substantially less for the Cooper as opposed to the S.

BEFORE you go and throw on the Magnaflow, talk to several people who have had time with it, or read some of the Magnaflow related threads. From what I hear, if your MINI's a daily driver, you might regret it due to the noise level it produces. You may want to lookat the less noisy Quicksilver instead or wait and see what the upcomming MiniMadness exhaust will offer.
