yes and isn't that what all of this upgrading is all about. Besides if you actually plan on doing actual tuning of the engine with the mods you would relize that the mini O2 sensors are narrow band sensors so yes I actually have a seperate wide band O2 with an air/fuel meter on it, so no need for a useless fault light.

I don't know what makes you so sure you have more mods than those who would rather keep legal emissions control than make 2 useless extra horses. You seem quite sure of yourself even though you don't know who you're patronizing. . Losing the cat does not serious tuning make. Just remember that. 2 whp doesn't exactly make or break a car.

Uh NO. Thats called a federal offensive for removed a CAT on a public highway. If your off-road, fine. Otherwise, not fine.

indeed... besides getting a fine of $25000, your insurance company cancel your policy when you need it most.. (if you had claim requiring an autopsy of your car and they discovered that your car was CAT less they could deny your claim) this is why CAT less headers are for Off road only..

Yes removing a cat is illegal, and we make sure everyone that buys catless parts knows this. We have customers sign a form saying they understand this. These are for off-road use only. But that doesn't stop someone buying the part for track use. Which is why we provide the CEL fix. This CEL fix is to tell the ECU the cat is there and functioning to eliminate any extra fuel or timing reduction when the CEL comes on.

How much is no cats worth?? Well we will show dyno numbers of both. But even if it is 5-10, which is what we have seen in other apps, the other point of removing the cat is for those track guys. If someone goes to the track with a cat in their header they run the risk of melting the cat. Which can blow up the motor because all the boost backing up into the engine. Also sometimes race gas is used (like leaded gas) and this will just destroy the cat.

So the catless option is there for these specific customers. Yes that may not be many of them but it is there for the customer to decide for them selves. Plus it will be less expensive!

Is this 5-10 on an EVO or STI? I've heard that cat delete on a Mustang Cobra gets something outrageous like 30-40 hp. Anyways, with our small displacements and SCs, I would be pleasantly surprised if cat delete on a MINI was worth that much [or little, depending on how you look at it!], but I kinda doubt it's worth even 5 whp. Either way, though, I do believe that our own track guru, onasled, runs perfectly fine, happily, and somewhat successfully with a Milltek header. It's not like the track requires catless. But, yes, on the track that's a person's choice. Props to Alta, for keeping the part American made and for being a model of responsible business! You have definately earned my respects there.

Yeah, I gotta agree and say good job, Alta.

Stick to your guns, and please continue to NOT outsource your parts to be manufactured overseas. I, for one, am more than willing to pay more money for your parts to be higher quality, and made in the USA.

Don't give in to the lure of more money by going to China for production. There are plenty of other vendors, (even in the world that is MINI), who do that already.

Keep on keepin' on!

ingsoc,
No, on an STI 20WHP is pretty normal. The numbers are ones we had seen from another NA car that ran very high RPM. Its not tons but it is enough that some people may choose them.

I mentioned the track stuff because of other experiences i have with cats melting at the track. Bad things happed to SC cars with plugged exhaust!

The price is still not really firm, but in a week we will publish them.

have the ports been reshaped to match the MINI's head or are they still round as shown on the ALTA website?

Congrats! Had this been ready 4 months ago, I'd be first in line.

Regarding the shape of the exhaust ports, I saw the Seven (read Comptech) header and it had round ports I think. I then went and talked with Madness, and their V2 header has round ports with flat bottoms. I asked about them and George said that the flange was ready for some head work, but that the bottoms had to be flat to avoid blowing the gasket. He showed me and convinced me that round ports would leave about 1/8" of gasket on the bottom of cylinders 2 and 3--a risk not worth taking in my book.
Needless to say I am waiting for my (expensive, but still cheaper than MTH) header to arrive...

cheers, phil

Jeff - Can you talk about dyno gains? Also, the bulge between the flex joint and the primaries... is that the cat? Or is that the pre-cat? Anything special needed to be done for installation?

discodan,
The ports do match the D shape of the stock head and header. The picture on our site is of a prototype that we cut round holes in. Making them round then porting the head to match will not work as there isn't much there to remove.

hyper blue 06,
We provide a 1 year warranty.

matma92ser,
Dyno numbers are soon to follow. There is a bulge/collector at the end of the primaries. Then the other buldge is the cat, which just beyond this. Is that what you are refering to? There isn't anything special to do the install, except maybe a gasket. Time to install is rouhgly an hour. Its a little tricky getting the header out the bottom of the car.
