possible issues with the 17% pulley need advice

Hey guys.. so i went down to steve's auto clinic in north hills and finally got my pulley done.. I decided to go with the 17% because it suited my driving style and that supercharger whine is just intoxicating.. anyways, i think i'm having some problems with it. first off, my boost gauge is only showing around 8.5 psi at max. i hear its suppose to be around 16 psi... how can i check if there is a boost leak in the system? Also, in park or neutral when i rev the car. it sounds like there is a bit of a detination problem.. sounds like a backfire but i don't think it is.. I haven't changed the spark plugs so hopefully when i do it will go away.. what do you guys think? I do have an automatic so maybe the ecu and map sensors are just going all crazy from the pulley but i doubt thats the problem..

Have you asked Steve? If so, what did he say?

It's the bypass valve (90% certain). Steve will take care of it in about 5 minutes and have you over 15 psi where it belongs.

yea my friend was saying that it may be the detonation that causes the bypass valve to stay open longer..

Or, something even simpler . . . a broken spring (that's what mine had).

It's the spring that's attached to the bypass valve. It's not difficult to change, but the location is a little restrictive. It's tucked in around the area underneath the IC sort of by plug #4 (I know this isn't the technically correct description). Search on "supercharger bypass valve" and you'll learn everything you'd ever want to know.

Slowride,

I have a 2004 MCSa also, with NAV. I'm curious about your gauge setup. Do you have your boost gauge next to your dual pods on the steering column? And if so, what bracket do you have?

(Steve does a lot of my work too. He'll make good on it.)

ok so i talked to steve on monday and he said that it may be my gauges being inaccurate.. but i've noticed something strange too.. I can't spin my wheels in first gear anymore.. i used to be able to chirp it pretty easily. so i am think there really must be a leak somewhere... grrr ... now i have to find time to go down there again..

If you paid him for the install he should be more interested than that.Unless its a giant coincidence it is a result of install.

Please check with Steve. I thought he only recommends and stocks the 15% pulley. Please also check the FAQ section at Webb Motorsports regarding pulley size. I have a 2005 MCS with MTH, 15%, 62 mm TB and Miltek which is pulling 193 whp and 176 ft-lbs of torque. Installation at Steve's 10 months ago - no problems.

Stop wasting time here - GO BACK TO YOUR INSTALLER and have him check everything out.
