crank pulley vs flywheel

I've heard much about the advantages of using lightened crank pulley to recover some driveline power loss. Would it be safe to assume that a lightened flywheel would recover even more power due to the greater amount weight loss? Not that it matters to me as I have both, just curious...

edit: nevermine, I searched Randy's site regarding this subject and the answer is Yes.

It's a offtopic but do you recommend flywheel or Alta IC?

If you can afford it, definitely both. If not, start with the IC.

  • What do you think of your Crank Pulley?
  • Is it a reduction version or stock size?
  • *Biggest Question - Did you feel any added vibration when you installed the CP (while sitting at idle, while cruising, under hard acceleration, etc.)??
THANKS for your insight.

1-I like very much...any reduction in rotational mass is always good.
2-Mine's a 2% overdrive + my 15% pulley reduction = 17% according to Alta.
3-Vibration? My Mini's full of vibration Honestly, I couldn't tell you because between the Powerflex engine mounts, clattering light weight FW, and the rumbling exhaust, I don't know what's coming from what I can say that it didn't add anymore cacophony to my Mini orchestra...

Sid you crack me up working "cacophony" into a NAM post is "art"

The IC is relatively cheap to install whereas the flywheel will add costs due to labor....... I am going to do a flywheel clutch and quaiffe over the winter towards the spring......as long as I am in there do it all... This is off topic but there are people putting in 05 gearboxes at a cost of around $3800 for the part and 12 hrs labor....WOW:impatient :impatient :impatient :impatient

Thanks for the info - - just what I wanted to hear.

BTW - Part of your 'cacophony' probably comes as another side effect of your lighted flywheel (beyond the rattling), simply because there is much less rotating weight in this crucial area to absorb driveline vibrations. This is especially the case given the 'plethora of enlightened amendments' that you have added to your vehicular orchestra.

(how's that for Usin' Fancy Wurds on NAM, SpiderX ?? )
