What is the inside diameter for the cold intake pipe on the factory box top for the Mini Cooper S? I am thinking about using the existing top and adding a cone filter inside of it. This I hope will insure that no engine heat enters the air intake. K&N has varios cone filters that will fit the bill.

it is a 2.5" inner Diamater, but you can not just stick a filter to the insid of it.. there is nothing to attach it to. if you look lower, I am designing a new intake that is very inexpensive and uses a KN filter. Take a look, and if you are interested, let me know

Arly, since I don't have my MINI yet I was wondering if you could tell me the temperature of the air in the engine compartment everyones seems worried about?

Thanks.

dominicminicoopers,

I saw your other post that asked this same question, and I've been trying, albeit unsuccessfully, to measure it with a tire pyrometer as well as a mercury thermometer.

I can tell you that a customer had the Monster intake, which has no heat shield, and fabricated a heat shield to fit it. He noticed a seat of the pants difference. This may be attributable to the effort he spent on the fabrication, but it sounded like he really thought it made a difference. I of course don't have any dyno or first hand experience with it, but I thought the info was worth passing along.

I'll keep trying to find a way to get those temps for you.

Randy

Randy,

Thanks for the update. For future searching purposes could you post your answer in the thread I started a topic called "All those with CAIs -- air temperature". Thanks.
