Drivetrain DOHC head
My God, I just recieved like 8 email about this and I just posted a few minutes ago.
I don't know what would be involved, all I know is that the bore spacing is close which at least put it in the ball park.
Next would be to determine the compatability of bolt holes and oil/coolant passages and what would have to be fabricated. Then a review of the combustion chamber and pistons to see if they are compatible (open/closed chamber) and if they produce the desired compression ratio.
If all that checks out then there is a lot of fabrication ahead and it will not a be a bolt-on. Swapping heads for better breathing is not uncommon though.
This is all just academic anyway as Mini will probably introduce a DOHC in the new few years anyway.

>>I just read that the bore spacing for the Mini/Chrysler engine is 85.5mm. The Mazda Miata 1.6 engine is 86mm. Hmmmmmm........

The effort required would be far more work (and money) than it's worth. Just becuz the bore sizes match does not meaning anything else will. Guaranteed nothing else will line up, making sealing a major problem (the early frankenstein setups on hondas had leak issues) and you'd end up w/ an extremely unreliable engine. A SOHC engine isn't bad. The main advantage of a DOHC is the independent control of intake and exhaust valves, which, for the most part isn't useful unless you get cams and such, which on a FI car like the S isn't nearly as beneficial as NA.
