Boost Gauge?

Hey everyone looking to purchase and install a boost gauge and probably the autometer d-pic guage any ways as far as the boost gauge goes is it okay to just get a boost only gauge (seeing as it is a supercharger and you should always have positive pressure unless i am grossly wrong if so plz let me know) or should i get a boost/vacuum also has anyone built their own gauge pod that goes around the tach?

if this is in the wrong forum i apoligize
Josh

You will need a Boost/vacuum gauge and may be somewhat surprised to find that most of the time it will be reading a vacuum. Over on Beneath the Bonnet you will find extensive posting on gauge installations.
Hope that helps

I suggest you get a vacuum/boost gauge...

My gauge almost always read vacuum, so I guess a simple boost gauge would almost always be at 0psi... No very usefull...

yep, the mini sticks at about -15, then from about 0-40% throttle, it only goes up to zero.

then, stock, it has to be at about 6 grand, WOT to even go past 10 PSI.

i got a -30 to +30 PSI autometer gauge, for under 60 bucks with a pod at Summit.

Whats a d-pic?

the only autometer gauges i would reccomend buying are the CF series or the Ultralite series. they are the only autometers id ever use.

and, please, stay away from those ricer crap gauges (ie Faze, some of those million color EL guages that cost like 40 bucks)

it is similiar to a g-tech but instead of going no your windshild it is pod mounted check it out on the autometer website it is pretty cool

the series i was looking at is the ultralites i just cant decide now if i should get the one with warn and peak as i think that would be pretty neat
any suggestions?

If you like to see your guages move, get a vac/boost. Otherwise, boost works fine. Check out Speedhut.com. Custom electrical guage, less than Autometer.

I see my boost guage always hitting boost even if I give it little throttle! I have the DEFI BF meter gauge. I love the looks of them!

having a Vacuum reading is often very helpful in tuning (or at least trouble shooting)

Since most boost gauges also have a display for vacuum, why not?

I just installed Autometer Ultralite boost/vacuum and oil pressure gauges. I used the stock Autometer pods, and a longer screw to put them directly onto the back of the tach. Ill be making a seperate post w/ pics soon.

Blu...did you just change bulbs in the tach to get that color? Did you also change them in the speedo?

I'm going to be buying a custom electrical boost gauge from speed hut within the next couple of weeks. Should I get the Boost Gauge or Boost/Vacuum Gauge? Difference in price is about $70, would delay the gauge by a couple of weeks. BTW bluminime, what color dial did you get? Also, what color needle? (I'm getting a blue dial, not sure on the needle color yet).. I love your gauges... Mine will say either ///MINI R53, MINI Cooper S or Supercharged.. which do you guys like best?

In normal daylight, the gauge face is silver, then blue backlighting, red/red pointer, no graphics, just the text, "swiss" font.

Truth be told, if Speedhut had vac/boost when I bought these, I would have gotten it... but they didn't. The vac/boost is fairly new product.
Hope that helps!

Has anyone thought about an air fuel gauge with the boost gauge? Trying to think of a good combo to use

That's the combo to use if you want lots of movement in front of you. An A/F ratio gauge really isn't useful unless you have lots of mods and really need to keep an eye on it so you don't lean off. Otherwise, it's more for show. An oil temp gauge would be a better choice so you know when it's alright to drive hard.
