man, after seeing that the exhaust will be that high, i'm going to have to go back to my original plan of just building one myself.

i was hoping to see a sub $500 system here.....

Randy, if that center pipe with resonator is indeed 3", I'd like to talk with you about that and my set-up... What kind of packing is used in the resonator? Probably the same as the muffler, but my main interest is the center pipe w/ resonator...

Nice job on bringing something new to mkt for us! Heck, I think the QuickSilver exhaust was 800 or so when I got it a couple years ago. And this one allows for user-control of the performance/sound

I've had 2.5" straight out the back for a while now, and the low RPMs feel the same, and the mid range and high end are very much improved. So, I have every reason to believe that Randy's exhaust will be a winner...

Also, with the increase in performance, I noticed that it did so on less max boost. Curious to know if you observed the same...

I'm just curious here but would there be a gain if the tail pipes would go straight out on both sides instead of turn 90 deg. twice in order to get out in the middle?

I know we would have to have a new valance made to accommodate the tail pipes but if it improves the power gain, I would be ready to pay extra for the valance, did anyone ever tried this?

I'd love to see that exhaust going straight out and tested compare to going out the middle, not that I have anything against the middle outlet, I actually like that look but if it robs power, I'd rather have it straight out, what do you guys think?

One more question, I went and looked at MC exhaust compare to MCS and was wondering if a good 3" MC system would have any benefit on a MCS, the weight is less, there is a lot less elbows and you can use a MC valance and have the tip sraight on the muffler instead of that snake going out the middle, I'm almost tempted to try this but I'm sure it must have been tried before and if there is no gain, I'd rest my case and save my self a useless expense.

Unfortunately, the system won't be anywhere near that. I am using very high quality (read expensive) materials, and if your local muffler shop decied to weld up one for you, it would run at least $600 wiht the resonator that can handle the supercharged exhaust gas temps and a muffler that actually works to quiet the flow down. The bigger you get, the more expensive the tubing as well. Throw in a $140 butterfly valve, and, well, you can see that there just isn't any margin left to make money to design other cool parts (not to mention feed my kids!).

This certainly isn;t for everyone, and if you have the time and resources to build your own, go for it! It is part of what makes the MINI fun for everyone .

It isn't a secret - randy@webbmotorsports.com .

I was at the shop picking up a tool, and took a look at NAM while I was there. I responded before seeing that I was logged in on Brian's account - I should have taken advantage of it and changed his sig to say something like, "I am goofy because I never log off..."

Of course it would bite me, because I never log off at work either!

Any chance you would sell plans for it? (Bend degrees and bend locations?)

I have the capabilities to bend tube now, and i have tig and mig welders at my disposal, so the only thing keeping me from getting a nice exhaust would be a layout.

Have you experiemnted at all with a single muffler, single pipe exhaust?

I would like to have a nice, straight, single muffler system that still is center exit. That would be a farily simple setup for me to tackle....

For a man or vendor now trying to recapture his investment costs to make this unit, he now needs to sell them to make this venture worthwhile. I'm guessing that it wouldn't be in his best interest to divulge such info. Maybe I'm wrong though...

But, he says hes only making an initial run of 10! maybey 20, if he drops below 5 in stock. i hardly see that as recouping costs, that seems like breaking even.

Recouping doesn't typically happen on first runs, at least from my experiences... Costs are often more than just monetary ones... but also include things like time and energy spent, and opportunity costs, etc...

Can't hurt to ask as you did. I suppose there's a price for everything .

Yeah, as long as the quality is there, it will be more expensive than average systems out there. I have been doing an extensive research on the exh. systems for quite some time, and so far all the available products have one thing in common: they all seem like missing something. Webb's system sounds almost too good to be true, but I have full faith in him, and that is the only reason the check book is not opened for a system so far. Can not wait to see the product.

how much improvement in power can an exhaust make vs stock and vs what other hot rod exhausts are out there?
10-15 hp?

John,

I'd say you are right on with the gains to be expected - max of 15 horsepower. That, however, is huge! That puts in in the same class as a supercharger pulley.

Rick,

I really am not comfortable giving out all of the info we worked hard on and spent money to find.

I plan on making an initial run of ten, and if the demand is greater, I will certainly make a larger run. We have the capapbility of making runs of 50.

Hope that helps!
Randy

Randy,
Assuming the only reason for the valve is noise control, can we expect the lighter cheaper, teeth rattling track version as well?

Randy and crew,

thank you for taking the time to develop this....looks hot.

AS you get closer to final production, I think it would help a lot of folks to hear/see video of the different exhausts you sell on the same MCS. HAve a set point for the camera, back the car up to it, and get some footage.

Sound is so subjective, and there really is no way to describe it.

Thank you and keep up the great work!

How loud is this new exhaust with the bypass closed? Compared to (for example) Miltek, is it louder? Quieter?

I assume running with the valve closed is for sound reduction at the expense of power. So how much could be gained by going ***** to the wall and eliminating the muffler side entirely? Is a single sided solution, no muffler, the hot set up?

is it just me or are there crimped (reduced size) sections of pipe right after the first two 90 degree bends:
