Drivetrain Any Interior Sound Levels from Exhaust?
#1
I am running the Rogue exhaust on my Cooper, and just out of curiosity tested the interior noise levels with an SPL (sound pressure level) meter. I bought the meter for home theater use, but was curious to see how loud my MINI was inside.
At idle, it's around 80-82 dB. Acceleration - 90-94 dB. On the highway, 87 dB. Just curious to see if anyone else is as crazy as I am doing this!

Hello Dan,
Interesting! My company has a sound level meter that we keep well-calibrated and use to monitor loud things like testing of generators and fire pumps. I'll see if I can get my hands on it to post some readings for the stock exhaust, which is what I currently have. From having used the sound meter in the past, I think the scale it uses is dBA (not sure if the A is cap or lower case) - is this the same scale that you are using? Where in the interior did you place the meter?
Also, I'm asking about this on another thread right now - do you find the Rogue exhaust to be significantly louder than the stock system at either low or high speeds/rpms? I'm considering an upgrade but don't want a lot of volume.

Chris,
It's a basic Radio Shack meter, I can set the settings for either Center (C) or A -average??? I had it on the passenger seat, or held it in my hands while driving. I know, not smart while shifting.
The Rogue is louder, in every aspect. Not obnoxious, I've had people drive my car so I could hear it. Sounds great. But interior is something to consider. At 3000-3500 RPM, there can be a very low level drone. One of my friends has commented, while another thinks it's great. I am actually going to speak to someone at Rogue to make sure it's not a fitment or baffling issue.
