Drivetrain Phantom Grip Limited Slip for 'S'
I would be real wary of the Phantom grip in ANY vehicle. It is basically two metal plates and some stiff springs. The springs just press the plates against the spider gears in the diff. The friction of the rubbing is what gives the traction. I would think that it is a high wear type of mod. You would be better off getting a different limited slip.
Ryan,
I haven't any experience with anything like this. I've always used a quaife or a traditional limited slip. I've been very happy wtih Quaifes in the Porsche applications, so I'm hoping they will correct the slight fitment issue in the MINI Getrag.
As far as the Phantom - I think it sounds like a high wear fitment. You are forcing the diff to do something it wasn't designed to do. In my humble opinion, if you are going to go through the INTENSE labor required to get at the differential, you should go ahead with the extra cost and put in a proper LSD.
Hope that helps!

I seem to remember a fare number of spridget drivers using a devise like this back in the 60's ( one of the very few things I can remember from that decade ) I think the one I used came from JC whitney! They worked well enough for poor boys working with few dollars. They werent a locker, a posi, etc. Thet were better than an open diff. You pays your money; you takes your chances.

... and from one of the ones who had to repair those diff's in the 70's, I gotta say I didn't like 'em one bit ... no sir, hope to have seen the last of those ...

>>Let's just say "you get what you are paying for"; it is a cheap alternative for a reason.
Yep!
"The Bitterness of poor quality far outlasts the Sweetness of low price."
Since it's so hard to get to I'd spend the extra money.
