resonator elimanator

Hi Guys and gals, I'm looking for some expert NAM help. I just found an interesting add on for my baby.I found it on www.myminiparts.com I have never really been happy with the sound of my JCW exhaust.Don't get me wrong. It sounds OK. But i really want it to sound more aggresive. Its a little to quiet. Some of my fellow MINI-acks on www.nemini.org have Borla and the like on there cars and they sound so nice. So heres my question? Has anyone heard of this replacement pipe for the resonator. How did it sound. And do i have to make any other adjusments to my car because of this change?I figure its an inexpensive way to change my performance and sound with out a new exhaust system. Thanks for your help you guys are the best.

You mean this part? Link

To me it looks like the pipe needed to do the one-ball exhaust mod.

I also have a JCW Mini and was not satisfied with the sound of the exhaust, so I took the car to a muffler shop and had the resonator removed and the sound now is deep and has a small burble at idle.....$ 30 job

miniSpider, Thank you so much. What a great idea. Thats what i'm going to do. Because i just found out that the elimanator won't work with a JCW exhaust. Did they have a pipe to replace the resonator or did they have to custom make one? Thanks again. Sometimes the best solutions are the most obvious.

cycleguru,

Hate to bring this up but check with the state about doing away with the resonator. In CA it would be a BIG fine

I also brought my 05 JCW MCS to a local muffler shop and they made a nice replacement peice. I think he quoted me $60.

The car is now a bit louder around 3K rpms and the burble when you lift off the gas is louder/more pronounced! Very cool and worth the effort.

Doing away with the resonator would not be a big fine in CA. On the other hand, if you remove the catalytic converter, you can get in big trouble.

The JCW exhaust and the Euro-spec stock MCS exhaust have an extra cylindrical resonator between the cat and the back of the car. Removing that and replacing it with a straight pipe would be very easy. Removing the resonator that forms the passenger-side ball to make a one-ball is a bit more complicated but still not rocket science.

Numerous NAM members have gone to the 0ne-Ball, myself included. Performance wise I think its one of the best bangs for the buck however you do not get the sound that your friends have BUT your friends don't have the 400-700 you saved either. Aftermarket exhaust contribute only a fee extra ponies at a hight cost per pony and while most justify the purchase by the extra ponies, the reality most buy aftermarket for the sound and the cool tips.

Sound wise the 1-Ball IS ONLY SLIGHTLY LOUDER than stock. BEARLY noticeable. I think most who have the 1-Ball wish or wouldn't mind if it gave more sound but it doesn't. So if you are hoping for a noticeable difference in sound chances are you will be disappointed. On the other hand you get some hp and you car remains stealthy.

Doing the pulley, CAI and 1-ball is the best bang for the buck (hp/cost) there is.

but isn't the jcw exhaust setup like the other aftermarket exhaust where it splits instead of leading into one just like the stock? just for clarification if you guys are recommending the one-ball mod to the jcw exhaust owners as well. and how can you get fine in CA if you remove the resonator because stock srt-4's don't even have one (i think). i don't know so yeah.

ok, but removing the resonator still won't attract too much attention. it will be louder, but still probably not up to magnaflow levels. unless i'm mistaken, please someone could share some experience. well according to the Dragon 04 exhaust shootout, the jcw was actually quieter than stock... so you see where i'm getting my conclusion here. so probably a smog check (maybe, i dunno) or up-tight dealer might be able to point it out.

I was considering this mod until I heard a mate's one-ball in Melbourne....

When the car was cold, it sounded awful. Granted, it could have been how he had his done, but it turned me off the idea straight away.

I don't want to offend those of you who have had it done.....that was just my aural experience of it....

He promised that once the car was warmed up, it sounded a lot better...

...perhaps....I didn't get to hear it as we both went different directions....

As for the other factors....the reduced restriction and the weight shedding are undeniable...
