What some instant performance gratification? Get rid of those nasty runflats!!!

WOOOOOOW!!

Thanks Randy and Dave for your help in picking these tires. I got a great deal at America's Tire ($390 installed). Tirerack was on national backorder or I would have used tham as Dan has been helpful as well.

Sounds great and I'm considering that for my "S" but what if you get a flat? Are you planning to carry a spare and jack ?

I've got a tiny little compressor and a fix-a-flat in my boot. I'm not worried. In my 15 years of driving I've never had a such a flat tire that it kept me from going anywhere. Besides, all the BMW M cars just carry a little compressor with a can of fix-a-flat. Not to mention that MINI Roadside Assistance will still pick you up if you have a blown sidewall.

Dave, you got new tires already?!?! Beat those puppies to a pulp so soon??

The AVS ES100 are nice tires. For $75 each, that ain't bad either. Just keep the little bottle jack, compressor and or fix-a-flat and your set.

The AVS tires wore well on the street, but after an autocross and in particular the track day, they were pretty beat. I probably got about 8,000 miles out of them, but like I said there are at least two days of very heavy tire wear. Plus, being lowered the rear camber means the rear tires only contact about half of the tread, so I'll be rotating these new tires a little more frequently.

BTW, I'm now sporting the 215/45 R16 Falken Azenis for the upcoming autocross season.

Congrats Dave! Just for comparison, what did you have on the car stock?

I had the Dunlop SP Sport 9000s on the 17" S-lites and R90's.

The Dunlops on the 17" S-lites/R90s are 50 lbs per corner
The yokohamas on the 16" MINI v-spokes are 37 lbs per corner

I haven't had a chance to wiegh the Azenis on the MINI R84 v-spokes yet. I'll probably do that eithr today or tomorrow, since I already know I'm going to have at least one of the wheels off for another issue.

I had a chance to weigh the Azenis tires last night

MINI R84 V-spokes / Falken Azenis 215/45 R16: 39 lbs

On the same scale the MINI R84 V-spokles / Yokohama AVD E100 205/50 R16 weighed in at 37 lbs. I'm happy to take a couple extra lbs for the extra grip of the Azenis.

If it weren't for autocross I would have got the AVS tires again. They provide good grip (although they do squeel like hounddog after an encounter with a badger) and at $75 the price is definitely hard to beat.

Actually they aren't so bad. After the first day I only used them at the end
of the straight. It was my first time with front wheel drive on a track but
once you get it....who needs brakes????
