Silicone hose question on Alta CAI

Is it worth it to pay $60 and get the silicone hose with the Alta CAI? the hose is just for looks right? choice of red, blue, black. If I don't get the silicone hose, I would be using the stock plastic hose?

Silicone hose?

Supposedly the silicone hose allows more airflow too, but I don't think it would be enough to make a difference on a dyno (I don't have any info to back that up, just my own opinion). It does look great though. Yes, if you don't get the hose you stick with the stock one.

the silicone hose is nice to look at but was difficult to install. the stock hose seems to be MORE plyable than the alta hose.. the alta hose kept slipping off the throttle body..(maybe to due to engine movement? ) the stock peice seems to absorb vibration better and doesnt slip off.. it seemed like i had to reinstall the alta hose every few days.

stock peice will not give you any headaches...

BMdoubleu, what clamp were you using? the stock one I guess? I havn't had any drama's with a real hose clamp.

Somebody showed their dyno figures here a while back with a 5hp gain using the hose.

Get the hose........when i did my research there were claims of increase and put the intake without the hose and had to wait a few weeks to get the hose. After the hose went on the always fallible, never accurate, "butt dyno" liked it.

I would have to say yes to the hose. I just installed one on my homogenized DIY intake. It has to be better, it's larger ( approx. 2.5" ) and smoother.
I can't/won't prove it makes a difference only that butt dyno say's YES.
The fitment to throttle body has been an issue for some and they have had to do some trimming. To insure a grip, wipe off the throttle body lip and inside of hose with brake keen before making that connection.

Yes.. it's been dyno proven(by ECE) and I'm glad I got mine.

On our dyno, it showed a 2 horsepower delta. The hose is 8mm larger than stock, and has no "folds" where the stock one does.

It also adds bling !

It is straight forward to put on once you know the tricks. Use the supplied hose clamp, and use a 1/4" drive ratchet with an 8mm swivel socket to tighten it on the throttle body - remove the plug for the TB and spin the clamp around to that same area to tighten with the socket and an extension.

Hope that help!

Randy

i was using the supplied hose clamps with the kit.. maybe my hose was defective some how.. it seemed a inch too short to stay on. 5hp from the hose sounds cool. i'll see if i can get an exchange or something.. thanks!

Curious where you are getting the hose for 60.00?? Lowest I've seen is 90.00.

I'm not sure if you can buy the hose separately. At webbmotorsports.com, they are selling the alta intake for 200 and another $55 for the hose.

If you buy the hose with the intake you get a break on the price ($50-60). If you by it alone it usually is $90.

One problem with the Alta hose, compared to the stock one, is that it creates a lip at the edge of the throttle body. Also, not all stock hoses have ridges inside, some are smooth.

nice graphic....I wonder what the gain would be if the concept fit was reality?

I wonder too.
The mouth of the throttle body could be tapered like a velocity stack to accomplish the same thing. Like knife edging a carb body i.e. old school mod.
Fitting an adapter would be a pain but possible.
