First Track Test for new M7 2% Crank Pulley
This last weekend at the Streets of Willow Springs in So Cal I ran my Cosworth Powered "04 MCS" with the 16% M7 SC pulley and the M7 2% Crank pulley for 2 days in 95 degree heat.
No overheating or belt problems after spending quite a bit of the days track time at 7000 RPMs. I sure did burn up a lot of 100 octane racing gas at $5.50 a gallon, but no other problems with the car.
The available power this car now has definitely outclasses my old Yokohama AVS ES100 tires. I guess I will have to spring for some really sticky tires before the next trip to the track, R compound maybe.

so what is the official stance of people nowadays now anyways... we got 3 prime mini tuners doing crank pullies (mini pilo's one is still not out) but the alta one and the m7 one both do not have harmonic balancers, does it mean that our engines do not need it and that over long term reliablity, there would be no problems?
i love hp gains, but not at the expense of my engine

Interesting question, there are several threads discussing that at length with opposing views split pretty equally on both sides.
I decided there was not sufficient evidence to prevent me from pursuing this option.

I do have to say that I was on the fence regarding a light weight crank pulley
on our cars. But after discussing the matter with the good people at Cosworth and doing some due diligence (talking to everyone
) We decided to do a Beta run of this pulley and have it tested.....Bottom line, no problems as
far as we can see, no unusual vibrations or harmonics.
The other concern we had, was the possibility of overdriving the accessories

I am still on the fence with this. Having had to shell out $ because I have killed my warranty, I don't want to have to buy an engine......does anyone have a relatively long term report, say 20K or more miles......would not the thing to do is tear down the engine and look for unusual bearing wear? Nuzzo reports were not good. I read the old thread....is there new sentiment?
Randy told me that he hasn't had any problems with the alta so far...And like many know, hes not quite ready to put his seal of approval on it (i.e. warranty). But I don't know what size he is testing...

. The products are GREAT. I'll put my name on it.PS: I test drove a JCW MC40, and my car [fully loaded] is faster now, without 15 or so HP from the tune, than that car was. The Cosworth with 16% is rated at 200 WHP. Not crank hp

As far as it being an overdrive pulley, does it also reduce weight? I am looking for something that reduces a little weight in the rotating mass of the motor without going to a flywheel. I think I remember reading that it is lighter, but is it much lighter? I would also think that the rotational mass is now further out from the center, so the reduction in wieght may be lost to that???

Thanks for the help. Just read through about 10 threads on the lightweight overdrive pulley and I think I am sold on the 2 or 3% overdrive crank pulley. Now I just need to get my hands on some of the tools needed. ANyone want to sell them or rent them to me in New York?

You haven't even dyno'd your own car. Furthermore there are no dyno results posted here from M7 showing them actually making 200whp with their 16% pulley and their Cosworth ported head. I hear Cosworth is coming out with their own big valve head, camshaft and pistons later this year which will be sold by all distributors which leaves M7 where?

If you look at the recent 15% boost thread somewhere around NAM, you can see the boost levels we run with the Cosworth [like 14.5 psi w/ 18% effective reduction]. OK, actual question...
What is the motivation to add a 4% overdrive crank to a 15% reduction sc pulley? Why not simply put on a 19% sc? I understand the light weight, but the +4%?
Also, is there known info as to the sensitivity of the sc being spun an extra 19%? I'm at 15% now, but may want to step up to the 19%.

Great question and let me give you my OPINION on this. If you go sraight 19% reduced pulley the belt will be making a much sharper turn than a combined 4% larger crank and 15% smaller SC pulley would. Common sence says the tighter turn equals more heat and possible slippage .
