I'll contribute. PM me with details.

P.S. This is my way of currying favor if you & your buds come up with a new hood scoop!

LOL...How'd you know it's the same friend:smile: He's finished the clay work and it's in the plaster mold as we speak. From the clay work that I last saw, it's beautiful. We've also determined that we could gain nearly 5/8" height in the opening. Can someone do the math and tell us what the increased area will be.

As soon as he's ready, we'll take some pictures and start a new thread

I count 13 with "yes, I'm in" in their quote (paraphrased). If we can get 7 more then it's only $5 per person:smile:

I will start PMing people who've express commitment tomorrow. Thanks guys

Still need to find an Alta to borrow...

Edit: Found a doner for the Alta. Here's the test sequence:

1-OEM intake
2-Alta intake
3-M7 AGS

One more suggestion, data log.....

If you don't have access to some good CAN-bus data logging HW/SW, there may be someone in your area who can "plug you in" so to speak for the test. What's available from the Mini is pretty extensive.. Some good stuff would be

MAP (pre-SC manifold pressure)
T-MAP (post-IC manifold temp and pressure)
Timing Advance
RPM
ECT (water temp)
Knock
O2 Sensor
Fuel trims

I'm sure there are a few more.. Plain OBD-II will be pretty slow. CAN should get all these at multi-Hz rep rates.....

Matt

ps, I'm in the SF south bay, and have stuff....

To all those that are offering to help defray the cost of doing Dyno pulls; Thank you. Yes, it is my car we will be testing. Why I've offered to do this; to give all those who are interested some real numbers. I would not be doing this for myself but it will be nice to know the results of adding AGS to a otherwise stock car. We now have an offer to use an Alta CAI to compare that intake to stock and the AGS. We will be doing pulls in the order of stock first, Alta second and AGS third. I see no real need to verify stock readings. If we did that, then we should do a second run of the other two systems as well. Frankly there just isn't enough time in one day.

I have Auterra OBD2 CAN software but don't know how to save the data. Will look into this. Thanks for the tip.

JS, I couldn't figure out why you were talking about 5-6 runs? Did I get your message wrong? Glad to hear the scoop came out of the mold:smile:

I think all the participating parties should be asked if it's OK to release the data immediately. It seems that most of the participants are owners of the AGS--and just want the numbers.

So, it is my belief (and I may be wrong) that the contributors will give the OK for immediate release of the data.

If that be the case (immediate release), I'm in.

The intent is to release the info to all who contributed immeditately. As to a open general release, everyone in NAM, anyone can do what they want with the info we send to them in a PM. Is that fair enough? Sid will be PM-ing everyone with his PayPal address. And I'll post as to when we get date to do the Dyno runs.

I fully understand the intent. If I were to contribute, I'd want everyone to have immediate access to it--I think others might feel the same way. It's worth it to ask. Maybe I'm just too nice.

holdin' info will make it more interestin'

i dont own 1 (AGS) and if its going to be held for a while or not it does not matter to me, either way im down for it but i think i would want to see more than just the AGS maybe HAI, Alta.........but if not possible then AGS & HAI should work

The MINI does not use CAN-Bus for diagnostics. The difference in sample rates between generic OBD-II software and MINI-specific software is in the use of the BMW protocols which permit MUCH, MUCH faster datalogging and supports the logging of MANY more functions and parameters. For example, upstream air pressure (IMHO, the most important thing to log when testing intakes) isn't even reported by generic OBD-II.

Your Auterra does not use CAN-Bus either. It is generic OBD-II, which is severely limited as far as sample rate and parameters that it can measure. Send me an email and I can check into lending you a Beta version of BiM-COM to help with your testing.

Wow, look at all the responses!

Now that there is an overwhelming response and some leftover cash, we should include pic, sound and dyno clips of the skeptics orgy. I know someone who can make a good soundtrack for it. Lots of twang.

Speaking of which, I am a little confused about the majority of the ones that are willing to see the dyno. Is it mainly supporters, neutral, or skeptics?

I want to see it, but I'm more neutral-supporter.

p.s. we're going to need some skeptics for the orgy video.

I'm curious about a lot of things...mostly to see how this process works. If it does, we have the opportunity to test anything within NAM. Andy is obviously willing to help with procedure, a good thing! We'll see...I'm not a skeptic, not part of my personality...no orgy for me

This is the list I have so far:

1-62Lincoln

2-Big Daddy

3-Boludo

4-cooldaddy

5-CooperSS

6-Cooper_Si

7-danielg

8-anonymous doner

9-Pilo

10-discodan

11-Dr Obnxs

12-eMINI

13-gmcdonnel

21-ted leist

22-Tuls

If I missed anyone or included someone eroneously, please speak up.

We have decided to do more like 8 runs including two runs of each intake to reconfirm. This will now take up two dyno sessions so all the donations will be of great use and remain at $10/person. Pilo has offered to lend us their intake to take part in this test.

The test sequence will be:

1-stock
2-stock
3-Alta
4-Alta
5-Pilo
6-Pilo
7-AGS

Rather than PMing everyone for the Paypal details, just go ahead and send $10 to my email and I will keep track of your names:

schiangjett@aol.com

Thanks again,
Sid

I hope JS's Mini doesn't blow up on the dyno
